Congratulations to Lynette of PicPocketBooks for winning a copy of the 10th Anniversary hardcover edition of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone!
While Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and may be a hot series, Harry Potter remains favorite among students even 12 years after Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone was first published. Perhaps one of the 7 Harry books is on your summer reading list or currently tucked into your pool bag or you anxiously await the end of the series as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows makes its way on to the big screen in 2 parts this November.
Regardless, all Potterfiles should make their way to the Harry Potter website that features a brand new site specially designed for young readers as part of the The Real Magic of Harry Potter campaign. Launched in March, this site is for Potter-philes ages 7 and older and features games, spells, and mysteries for readers who are just beginning their adventures with Harry.
This new digital experience allows children to wield their wands via the mouse to unlock magic through Harry Potter themed games that correspond to each year at Hogwarts. Year 1 involves practicing wand skills while year 2 requires using logic to solve puzzles to turn teacups into turtles, buttons into beetles, and make dogs from rocks as part of transfiguration. Can you tell I loved this?
In year 3, The Prizoner of Azkaban, use the Creature Creator to change your creature’s traits from land to sea animal and choose its size, eye color, skin type, and sound to make a mythical creature much like the ones who can be found in the Hogwarts forest. You can also find Wizard Trivia Challenges in years 4-7 that require you to answer 10 questions. Note: They are tricky so summer may be the perfect time to study up to improve your score!
Also check out the glossary of terms which is especially useful if you can’t remember the difference between the alohomora and anapneo spells or you need to look up any of the many characters that grace the pages of the 7 books.
With a wealth of content designed to get a new generation interested in the Harry series, this new site is easy for the youngest fans to navigate and a pleasure for any fan who wants to relive the magic of 7 years of Hogwarts.
