Since September 19, 2013 marks the tenth anniversary of International Talk Like a Pirate Day, why not celebrate with all things pirate! Here are 5 ways you can celebrate in true pirate fashion!

Start by learning the lingo. The International Talk Like a Pirate Day site features the basics and also advanced pirate vocabulary along with pirate pickup lines.

Practice your pirate vocabulary. Practice makes perfect so greet your family pirate style and then progress to answering your phone in the most pirate-y possible. Need a video tutorial? Here’s a quick lesson!

Learn about famous pirates in history. DLTK-Kids.com has a great post that features brief biographies of 10 famous pirates throughout history. They’re perfect for printing out and reading over breakfast or dinner and tucking in older kids’ lunch boxes before they head off to school.

Piratize Yourself with the free iPhone app that allows landlubbers like us to don pirate outfits. Piratize Yourself works with both the back and front facing cameras so you can piratize yourself, friends, and kids. Then share your photo through your social media networks. Because what’s the point of taking the photo with your iPhone if you don’t share it on Twitter and Facebook?

Go on an after school treasure hunt!  Sketch out a room in your house or the backyard and lead young pirates to where X marks the spot and a pile of pennies awaits as pirate gold.

Celebrate with an feast fit for a pirate. Pinterest is a treasure trove of pirate themed foods (chicken kabob daggers anyone?). If you don’t want to go all out, a bag of  Pirate’s Booty should do the trick! Serve apple juice for the kids and any rum laced cocktail for the adults should do!

ARRRGGHHHH mateys! Happy Talk Like a Pirate Day!
