Besides the Fourth of July being Independence Day and part of a long weekend, it’s also my birthday! We always have more than enough things to do on the 4th which makes for a fun day, usually ending with ice cream cake and fireworks.
HowStuffWorks.com has an interactive guide to fireworks |
Speaking of fireworks…Want to become knowledgeable about fireworks to dazzle your friends as you sit and wait for those ones to explode overhead? Learn how the incredible fireworks shows are put together or what each one is called. How Fireworks Work on HowStuffWorks.com includes an interactive field guide. After all, it’s geeky cool to be in the know and shout, “what a beautiful pistel pattern!” while others ohh and ahhh!
If you’re in the Nation’s Capital over the long weekend, I have the insider scoop on DC area fireworks displays on The National Mall, Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, and Antietam National Battlefield with some information about the day’s best hometown parades through my Savvy Source piece called Savvy Parenting: The Fourth of July in the Capital, Family Style.
Martha Stewart Cocktails App for iPhone, iPod & iPad |
If your 4th involves a barbecue and you wanting to break away from beer as your beverage of choice, your trusty friend Martha Stewart can help! Channel Martha through her new Martha Stewart Cocktails app that includes how-to videos and photos, a virtual bar, a unit converter, and the ability to “send a drink” and share recipes with your friends on Facebook when they’re clamoring for the secret ingredients. With 60 drink recipes for classics as well as mocktails, there’s something for everyone at your holiday BBQ. $2.99 from iTunes and available for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad.
Finally, let’s end this post with a jaunty little tune from The Sing-a-ma-jigs thanks to Julie from Just Precious! Love or hate these little creatures, it’s pretty funny that they have a YouTube video that you either help you find your inner patriot or leave you cursing at them for dishonoring the good ole U.S. of A!
Have a happy and safe Fourth of July!

I need to check that app out. There have been so many times I could have used a handy little app for a quick drink fix.
