Next month I’ll celebrate Tech Savvy Mama’s 7th anniversary. What started out as a hobby and a way of sharing helpful tidbits with parents about the best educational software and websites has become so much more. Who knew seven years ago that apps, mobile devices, connected home products, and social media would be part of today’s technology landscape for families!
Seven years is beyond a lifetime in the blogging and social media world. There are days I wonder who is out there reading, why I’m really doing this, and if anyone would miss my little old site if I just stopped writing but honestly, I know I can’t. Tech Savvy Mama has become a big part of ME.
Blogging has allowed me to use my background in teaching but in a different way. Instead of face to face lessons to my students in my elementary classroom, I’m teaching through blog posts and interesting links found around the web that are shared through Facebook. I’m giving you an inside look at my daily life as a work at home mom, business owner, and parent thanks to Instagram. I get to impart knowledge with every television news appearance and speaking engagement. I’ve found ways to use my voice for good by sharing stories about amazing individuals in Haiti while championing involvement in causes like ONE and Shot@Life. I hope I’ve inspired you to unplug in favor of family time when you can and to do a #DeedADay.
And I’m so incredibly grateful.
I’m grateful that you’ve joined me on this journey. I’m grateful for friendships made thanks to this space that span the globe. I’m grateful for the fact that I’ve picked up many new readers through the years but many of you reading this have been here since the very beginning when I nervously clicked publish on that first post on February 2, 2008 that introduced Emily to the world as Little Miss Techie. I’m grateful for all that I’ve accomplished because of you.
If the internet imploded tomorrow, this will have been a incredible ride and I will have enjoyed every minute. But I kind of hope that doesn’t happen!
So what’s next for me and Tech Savvy Mama going into year 7?
Just as we make individual New Year’s resolutions, many bloggers take some time at the beginning of the year to think about their editorial calendar, goals, and a word to live by for the year. This year my word is ME.
Last year I gave up columns on Parents and Babble as a strategic move. It was the first step in taking back ME after feeling like I was on a never-ending treadmill, sacrificing time with family to meet deadlines and their goals instead of focusing on what truly matters.
And what matters is ME, my family, and choosing endeavors that originate from Tech Savvy Mama that are worth pouring my heart and soul into. If I’ve learned nothing else over the last seven years, staying true to myself is important because who I am matters.
So that’s my game plan. It may not be earth shattering but it’s ME and I’m planning to fully embrace it and hope you’ll continue to join me!
This #ThisIsME post was inspired by “ME Day,” created by domain .ME, is March 16th, 2015. I was thinking just today how grateful I am for my blog. Without my readers I wouldn’t be able to do so many things with my family.
Best of luck wherever your journey takes you.

Thanks for sharing that you have said no to things, even some good things. I have to believe the more we say no to, the more room in our life for the real yes things. Good luck in year 7!!
