Easy Spring Break Learning Goals for Kids of All Ages

April 2, 2025 By Leticia

Spring break is right around the corner and while everyone needs a brain break, unstructured time can be hard for kids who thrive on a routine. Help your kids keep from getting too restless by working together to set spring break learning goals.

How to Set Spring Break Learning Goals

Spring break learning goals can provide focus and give kids of all ages a sense of accomplishment when the week is over. Here are three quick tips for working together to set spring break learning goals.

Keep Spring Break Learning Goals Simple and Fun

Spring break goals don’t have to be hard. They can be learning focused, travel related, or both but keep them fun! A great way to combine learning while on vacation is to teach your child a life skill necessary to traveling. Keep reading for age-appropriate ideas!

If you’re doing a staycation, a simple goal could be to visit the library to select a new book to read or take a nature walk around the neighborhood for signs of spring. If you’re doing a day trip, choose an audiobook to listen to in the car.

Make Them Age Appropriate

If traveling by plane to your spring break destination, here are some age-appropriate spring break learning goals that are great life skills:

  • Preschool and early elementary ages can be responsible for practicing proper flight etiquette. Please and thank you go a long way with TSA agents, gate agents, flight attendants, and everyone they encounter during their travels. Integrate some simple addition or subtraction by teaching kids time zone math. Let them practice the time difference between home and your vacation destination. Also let them be responsible for their own carry on bag. Even though you’ll still be keeping an eye on your family’s belongings, they’ll take pride in this responsibility.
  • Older elementary ages and tweens can take on the task of finding your flight number on the monitor and locating your gate. Have them practice reading maps of the airport terminal, when using mass transit, and navigating your new destination.
  • Teens who have traveled before should be given some independence to manage their travel time. Give them money to buy their own food and snacks. Let them explore the area around the gate but let them know when they need to be back. They need to know what time you’d like them back at the gate for boarding. Have them set an alarm or send a reminder text 15 minutes in advance so they make it back to the gate before boarding begins.

Ensure They Can Be Achieved

The best thing about goal setting is knowing you’ve accomplished what you’ve set out to do so make spring break learning goals short and sweet. Manage expectations by being realistic. If something seems too hard or not worth the effort to try to pursue, it’s ok to abandon it!

I think my daughter would love the (Ongoing) Exotic Animal Veterinary: Herpetology, Reptiles, Amphibians (10-15 YO) or the (FLEX) Comprehensive Introductory Equine Vet Science Course (Ages: 9-12).

My best advice to parents of college students? Whe My best advice to parents of college students? When they say “you should come” - GO! ✈️

Over the last 4 years it’s been so wonderful to be invited for glimpses of Emily’s life on campus. I’ve been welcomed by her amazing friends who have become part of our family, met the professors, faculty & staff she talks so fondly of, and gotten to know fellow parents through trips to Family Weekend all while enjoying time with my best girl. 💕

Today I’m heading home as a proud mom with a full heart for all that I’ve experienced on campus during her college years and am in disbelief I’ll be back for graduation next week. 🥹

I continue to be in awe that we put something in space that existed up there for 5 months. 🥰 Our CubeSat took photos 📸 and tweeted 🐦‍⬛them out as we hoped it would thanks to the many students (and parents!) who have been involved in our meaningful real-world hands-on STEM project that enabled them to learn about technology and space over the past 11 years.

I found some old notes from a 2015 meeting and under Questions, I wrote: “If we are successful, would we do this again?”

And the answer is yes! 🎉 Here’s to SilverSat 2.0 and involving more kids to dream up a new mission for our next Silver Spring CubeSat! 💕

Happy #MedalMonday to everyone who ran a race over Happy #MedalMonday to everyone who ran a race over the weekend and is adding new race bling to their collection! 🎉 I did a thing this weekend too but it didn’t involve another race! 😂Here’s the before, swipe ⬅️ for the after!

Inspired by seeing @allytbrett_runs ’s race medals, I did a little medal reorg that makes my OCD self happy. 🙌🏼Pro tip- Instead of sliding the bar of the medal rack through the ribbon, I looped the ribbon around the bar so all the medals face forward! This small thing made a huge difference and makes me happy every time I walk into my office!💕

My next race is the 25th anniversary @stjude Memphis Marathon Weekend on December 5th. I’m thinking this anniversary year medal will be the start of a new medal rack, just like my 15th anniversary medal started this collection.🫶🏼

If you want to run Memphis with me, race registration is open! Comment Memphis and I’ll DM you the registration link and happy to answer any and all race ❓s!

Race medals are great but charity bling is better! Race medals are great but charity bling is better! 🏅When I first started running for @stjude 10 years ago, I thought I’d be one and done but here I am- 15 races later and having raised almost $50,000! 🎉

The goal has always been to help end childhood cancer and I feel so fortunate to have met the most amazing people along the way. My fellow @stjudedc Hero Ambassadors are a group of dedicated baddies who I adore. 🥰

We cheer for each other on and off the course and as my friend & fellow DC Hero Ambassador @jess_santora says, “My goal was never just to reach the finish line- it was to help more people get there too.” 🏃🏻‍♀️

Here’s to more races, more money raised for St. Jude, and forever friendships! Already excited (and fundraising) for St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend this December. ✨Fundraising link in bio and donations of any amount are appreciated to help me reach my $4,000 goal! 🙏🏼

When Team @otfsilverspring gets out of the studio When Team @otfsilverspring gets out of the studio for @runrockandroll DC! 🎉 Today 20 of us got out from under the orange lights and crushed 5Ks and half marathons to benefit @stjude kids and families as St. Jude Heroes.💪🏼

I am so proud of each and every one of us and especially incredibly grateful that OTFSS members said yes to running today! 🥰

We fundraised, trained, and ran to give families hope that their kids will survive childhood cancer and to support researchers as they work towards a cure for childhood cancer and other life threatening diseases. 💕

As a mom of 2, I know no parent should ever have to hear “your child has cancer” so thank you Team OTFSS for supporting St. Jude’s mission by running the streets of DC! We did it and I’m already looking forward to next year’s RNR DC race so we can do it again!🧡🧡🧡
