Port Discovery is one of our favorite places to visit that never gets old thanks to great hands on exhibits and an amazing climbing structure rising three floors through the center of the building. During spring break we visited and got to experience Adventures with Clifford the Big Red Dog, a traveling exhibit at Port Discovery until May 6, 2012.
This darling exhibit, inspired by Clifford the Big Red Dog on PBS Kids, is a must for any Clifford fan. Visitors can meet Clifford as they board the Birdwell Island ferry, the home of America’s beloved big red dog, and immerse themselves in his world. Sit on a stool at Samuel’s Fish and Chips Shack on the pier, play on T-Bone’s bone shaped beach, experience the musical marina featuring instruments from around the world, marvel at the size of Clifford’s 9 foot doghouse, and help Mr. Carson sort and mail letters at the Birdwell Island Post Office. The exhibit reinforces Clifford’s Big Ideas that are part of the PBS show: share, play fair, have respect, work together, be responsible, be truthful, believe in yourself, be a good friend, and help others.
This weekend Port Discovery is helping Clifford the Big Red Dog celebrate his 50th birthday with a fun bash that includes Orioles Bird, Fifi from AVAM, Chick Fil A Cow,University of Maryland’s Testudo the Terp, and other mascot friends.
Museum guests will have the opportunity to make a Clifford Party Hat, enjoy balloon sculptures with Bubbles the Clown, watch the mascots play a friendly game of tug of war, bounce and play in a moonbounce, sing Happy Birthday to Clifford with the Kindersinger and much more!

- Bubbles the Clown- Magic and Balloon Sculpting: 11:30 am – 12:30 pm
- Pets on Wheels- Visit with Clifford’s Friends: 11 am – 1 pm

- Make a Clifford Party Hat: 12 pm – 3 pm
- Maryland SPCA: 12 pm – 3 pm
- Mascot Tug of War: 12:30 pm
- Sing Happy Birthday to Clifford with The Kindersinger: 1:15 pm
- Moonbounce: 10 am- 5 pm
Admission: Clifford’s BIG Birthday Party activities are free with museum admission. Museum admission is $13.95 for guests ages 2-102. Children under 2 and members are free.
