In my former career as a classroom teacher, I spent at least $1000 of my own money each year on classroom supplies and instructional materials for the students in my first grade class. Out of pocket spending by teachers is so common that 92% of teachers report spending their earnings on materials for student use. Across our nation, teachers spend $1.3 billion dollars on classroom supplies each year.
As a former classroom teacher and a parent who advocates partnering with teachers to enhance our childrens’ education, I am thrilled to be working with Office Depot REAL Change #TeachersChangeLives campaign. This campaign recognizes the contributions that teachers make each and every day to support their students by providing a chance for each and every one of us to help our kids’ teachers. As a place where I shopped for classroom supplies and serves as THE place where our family shops for school essentials, I’m excited to be working with a national retailer that truly cares about teachers and their challenges and understands what they need in order to thrive.
Today I’m helping Office Depot kick off the first part of the campaign with a Pinterest Sweepstakes that is incredibly easy to enter in order to win Office Depot gift cards for you and the teacher of your choice. Here’s a quick look at how to enter!
