Thanks to Whirlpool for sponsoring my CES series on #EveryDayCare.
Fifteen years ago my husband and I bought our first home from the estate of a woman who had owned it for probably 70 years. Situated on a large lot, the house had great bones but just needed some updating. We hired a contractor to renovate the only bathroom we had (flamingo pink with it’s oddly situated bathtub and no shower) but did much of the other work ourselves, including tackling the 1970s avocado green kitchen.
Our kitchen was a beautiful sight for those who love retro kitchens. The high low oven, side by side refrigerator, matched the avocado green stained cabinets that we were told cost a pretty penny in the 1970s and all sat on a linoleum covered floor of the same color and vintage. Imagine this kitchen but more with more avocado green fabulousness!

White paint and new hardware did wonders for those cabinets to bring them into the current decade and we loved the discovery of unfinished hardwood floors revealed when we pulled up the linoleum. But what about the appliances?
Since we were on a budget and not quite ready to replace anything that still had some life in it, we took the fridge outside and spray painted it white. It worked until we realized it was leaking water on our floor. We bit the bullet and invested in a new stainless steel gas range because the high low oven that our home came with had a cracked oven door.
Small changes like painting our cabinets and replacing the appliances made a huge difference in updating our kitchen with a more modern look but still allowed us to be on a budget and save money for the addition we built eight years later with a kitchen that looks like this:

I were to do it all over again, I’d be tempted to forego stainless steel appliances. Stainless has been the trend for years now but I find my eye gravitating towards appliances that add a punch of color like the rosy hued Sunset Bronze Kitchen Suite from Whirlpool®. How easy it would have been to swap out our avocado green appliances for a fridge, dishwasher, and range that would have slid right in to the old spots and provided a beautiful, new modern look that goes with the rose gold trend.
One thing that we didn’t know 15 years ago when coveting stainless appliances was the constant TLC they needed. Stainless steel was great when it was just me and my husband in our new home but as our family grew, the constant wiping of fingerprints and wiping in just one direction to clean just wasn’t practical with kids.
With claims that the Sunset Bronze Kitchen Suite is fingerprint-resistant, fellow parents Meagan Francis, Jim Higley, and I had to put it to the test when we were visiting Whirlpool’s booth at CES. With gooed-up fingers mimicking those of our kids’ hands, we put our fingers all over the Sunset Bronze refrigerator. We touched high and low with fingers and full palms, grabbed the door handle, and Jim even rubbed his hands all over his head before touching it.

And nothing. We were amazed. Truly no fingerprints were left behind on the painted bronze surface! They literally vanish! We were in awe! Take a look at our reaction captured on video during our time with Whirlpool.
Affordability of a timeless look in a beautiful new color plus easy care for families makes the new Sunset Bronze Kitchen Suite is just another way that Whirlpool® allows us to provide every day care for our families so we can concentrate on the important moments in our lives, rather than wiping off pesky fingerprints!

These are great and just in time for my very soon (I hope) remodel. I love that there is something different at last!
Love these — wow. Great design!! And yes, the sunset bronze goes with everything.
I even love the name of it, tying in sunset–which I’m sure is the point–to conjure up happy memories and experiences with the family…and I’m glad to see the shiny silver slide over to make room with something that has such a softer edge to it. Nice!
Oooooo that Sunset Bronze is so pretty, I want to paint my cupboards black and those would look great with black!
Fingerprint free! Wow! I love the Sunset Bronze design. One of these days….
No fingerprints? That’s amazing! And, yeah, I love that color. We have really outdated black appliances…but yeah, not fingerprints!
Love that you got down & dirty and attempted getting fingerprints on the sunset copper appliances!
Omg, those renovation pics are amazing. We have a LOT of fingerprints over here from Mr. Andrew Stow. This would be an awesome upgrade!
