On Sunday I’ll be heading to Detroit as a guest of Ford Motor Company for their Driving Green Technology Event thanks to a partnership between Clever Girls Collective and Ogilvy PR. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is bringing together 100 green, tech, and lifestyle bloggers from 10 countries around the world and will include time at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) and a trip to Ford’s World Headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan.
While at NAIAS, I’ll be sitting in on major announcements from Ford made during their press conferences, visiting the expo hall to see the latest and greatest by all the leaders in the automotive industry, and talking with noteables such as The Whole Earth Catalog author Stewart Brand and Sheryl Connelly, Manager of Ford Global Trends & Futuring.
My trip to Ford HQ will include:
- Factory tour including a chance to see their green roof
- Time on the Ford test track (!)
- Hearing how Ford addresses global sustainability in terms of product actions, manufacturing, and human rights
- Trip to the Sustainable Materials Lab to learn ways Ford works to make vehicles green inside and out
- Meeting with the design team who will show how uses of motion-tracking equipment and computer software help evaluate the ergonomics of their cars
- Hands on in-car demonstrations of Ford’s voice activated SYNC system
- Learning about software that creates a variety of driving conditions and experiences to test real situations drivers may encounter in real life
It’s going to be a whirlwind trip but I’m excited to see the new technology that Ford is deploying in their latest vehicles especially since we spent the good part of the spring shopping for a hybrid car with tech features that made safety a priority while also adding convenience and functionality to our car to enhance the driving experience.
I’d love to help you answer any questions you have about Ford, green vehicles, or embedded technology in cars. If there’s anything you would like me to ask while I am attending the event, please feel free to leave a comment here or Tweet me!
You can also follow the conversation about the things I’m learning at the press conferences, the hands on time at NAIAS, and during my visit to Ford World Headquarters by following me on Twitter or by doing a Twitter search for the hashtag #FordGreen.

I was invited to participate in this program by Clever Girls Collective, Inc. in partnership with Ford and Ogilvy PR. Ford Motor Company paid for my travel and accommodations at the 2-day Driving Green Technology event, I was not compensated in any other manner for my time. My opinions posted here are my own.
