Today for Bump Month, the Bumpin’ Bloggers of Splash Creative Media are talking about breastfeeding.
In case you were worried about a little TMI or over sharing- not to worry- today I’m highlight the rich resources on the BabyCenter for nursing moms.
BabyCenter is a free site that anyone can join and while I’m sharing the parts of the sites that are helpful to new breastfeeding moms, BabyCenter has resources for all ages and stages including getting pregnant, pregnancy, baby, toddler, preschooler, and big kid but also a section called You & Your Family just for parents.
But since we’re talking breastfeeding today for Bump Month, here are two of the wonderful parts of BabyCenter that I wish I used more 7 years ago as a new nursing mom.
BabyCenter’s Breastfeeding Site— As a pregnant mom, I loved Baby Center’s weekly emails that helped me track Little Miss Techie’s development in the womb and until she was 11 months old but was just admiring the wealth of information found on their breastfeeding site. There are breastfeeding basics, including information about pumping and bottle feeding, breastfeeding problems, and tips for working moms who nurse. Also take a look at the breast milk interactions chart that is a handy guide to knowing how the things you eat affect your breast milk and the breastfeeding problem solver, a quick way to help determine what may be the problem determined by checking off up to four symptoms. While the problem solver isn’t a substitute for advice from a doctor or midwife, it can be helpful to calm initial fears.
BabyCenter Breastfeeding Support and Help Community— The online BabyCenter Community is a rich resource for any new mom seeking advice or wanting to feel connected with a group of women currently experiencing the same thing. Community members post topics of interest and share information and experiences with each other. Current posts on the front page include topics like good links to other breastfeeding sites, issues with Medela pumps, milk supply, and a query of moms who succeeded with pacifiers.
What breastfeeding resources did you find helpful as a new mom? If you’re a BabyCenter member, what parts of the site do you find most useful?
Don’t forget to RSVP and join all of the Bumpin’ Bloggers for a #BumpMonth Twitter party this Wednesday from 8-10 pm EST. Also be sure to enter my Bump Basket giveaway! Additional entries, including a daily Tweet, are available on my giveaway!
