Favorite Licensed Products from Royaltie$ Brand Showcase

September 16, 2011 By Leticia

Over the summer I had the opportunity to attend Royaltie$ Brand Showcase to learn about licensing and get a sneak peek at lifestyle brands and branded products that are either on the market or will be for the holiday season.

I have to admit that I didn’t know much about the world of licensing except for the fact that it seems like brands have expanded their markets.  Indeed licensing has become a huge industry with $89 billion in sales in 2010 in the different types of product lines including trademark, fashion, sports, entertainment, art, food & beverages, toys, health & beauty, and accessories. At the event I got to meet with representatives from Scholastic, Jelly Belly, Zike, Le Tour de France, Chuggington, Discovery Communications, Fisher Price, and more.
Captain Computer and Little Miss Techie were invited to join me to experience Royaltie$ and here were some of our favorite picks that are either out now or will be in time for the holidays.

The Magic School Bus – Chemistry Lab and Microscope Lab— Scholastic has licensed Ms. Frizzle from the Magic School Bus books and television program to create a line of kid friendly science kits perfect for kids 5 and up to conduct home experiments.  Created by Young Scientist Club, the Chemistry Lab was a favorite. It contains experiment cards for budding scientists to test pH, make bubble sculptures, create slime, learn about density, and so much more thanks to materials designed by Harvard grads, scientists, educators, and parents! I can see our family using a Magic School Bus science kit for some at home learning during a cold rainy day. The Chemistry Lab Kit retails for $40 but Zulily has it for $24.99. Zulily also has many of the other products available so stock up the birthday closet and grab some for holiday gifts before the sale ends on September 18.

I Spy Super Challenger game for LeapFrog Leapster Explorer and LeapPad Explorer Learning Tablet — Captain Computer and Little Miss Techie spend hours looking at our I Spy books by Scholastic. They also play the I Spy app on my iPhone so it’s only natural that they were more than interested in the new I Spy Super Challenger game for their LeapFrog devices.  We love that the photographs and riddles are just like the book but there are different interactive levels that can be unlocked for lots of game play to reinforce problem solving skills, math, vocabulary, and logic.  50 different riddles that are part of 20 photographic scenes engage kids in a different platform. Scholastic’s licensing of I Spy to LeapFrog to create the I Spy Super Challenger game brings together two well known educational powerhouses to benefit kids ages 5-9. $24.99

4H’s new line of animal products
4H Animal Products from Lemur Licensing— As dog owners, our 3 year old Labrador was as excited to get a bag of Cheese and Bacon Flavored Dog Treats ($4) as the kids were to give them to him! The all natural ingredients were impressive but so is the fact that 4H is licensing products to get the word about who they are and what they do.  Usually seen at county fairs, 4H is more than just about raising animals and good values.

The iPad case was my fave but Captain Computer loved the
Animal Planet Air Swimmers shark!
Discovery Expedition Underwater iPad Case ($39)— Discovery Channel is all about adventure and their new Underwater iPad Case provides a level of protection that any fan can feel good about because it really works.  Just in case you were thinking about going anywhere near water with your iPad, this is one dry case that really keeps your device
Favorite characters expand their reach with merchandise to appeal to children with diverse interests
Pinkalicious products for imaginative play and more
Pinkalicious— Fans of the book can now enjoy merchadise that includes Nintendo DS games, paper goods for a Pinkalicious themed birthday bash, figurines, bike helmets, backpacks, as well as an expanding line of books.
Learn the secret ingredient in Krabby Patties
Sponge Bob— If you’ve ever wanted to know how to make Krabby Patties, Nickelodeon now shares Sponge Bob’s secret in the brand new Sponge Bob Kitchen Mission Cookbook. In case you can’t get enough Sponge Bob, he now comes in Potato Head form, as round puzzles, adorning paper goods for party supplies, and Lego lovers can even recreate his underwater habitat in brick form.
Myriad of Chuggington products for train enthusiasts
Chuggington— Apparel, bedding, a line of Crayola Color Wonder coloring products, board books, story book apps for the iPhone/iPod/iPad, sporting goods, DVDs along with the trains and track are a dream for any Chuggington lover.
Berrylicious Strawberry Shortcake items
Strawberry Shortcake— What was once just a doll when I was a child has become so much more since.  Bandages, Strawberry Shortcake wigs, t-shirts, sunglasses, coloring books, personal care products, and flip flops are just some of the items that feature Strawberry Shortcake’s freckled face.
Huge thanks to Royaltie$ for covering our travel expenses in order to attend but as always, all opinions are my own and those of my two young testers who accompanied me.  Samples were received to facilitate reviews. Amazon and Zulily affiliate links included in this post.

Today we’re celebrating National Rescue Dog Day Today we’re celebrating National Rescue Dog Day because we’re so glad Goldie and Murphy are part of our family! 🐶 We gave Goldie her forever home when she was 6 months old. She had been given up by her original family because she was just too much for them. She was an enthusiastic pup who loved to jump straight up in the air when she got excited and she used to hop the fence in the mornings to go visit her best dog friend, Katy, over our back fence. She still jumps from standing when she sees a deer, meets a favorite dog friend, or gets a visit from @lisatasch but now at age 5, she’s more calm and forever faithful. 🦮We met Murphy and his 9 brothers and sisters just days after he was born although we didn’t know he would be the puppy we’d claim as ours. Murphy has that puppy energy but in his quiet moments is a total love bug. He hogs the free space in our king bed (he even has his own pillow!) and loves nothing more than to press his body into me or lie directly on me. 🐾 Goldie and Murphy came to us through @labrescuelrcp and we couldn’t be happier that they’re part of our family! ❤️ #rescuedogday #labrescue #labrador #adoptdontshop
After 3 days at St. Jude Children’s Research Hos After 3 days at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, I’m leaving Memphis so very grateful to be able to support St. Jude’s mission of working to end childhood cancer. ❤️ Spending time connecting, brainstorming, and absorbing the wisdom of fellow Hero Ambassadors from around the country was inspiring because the work we do fundraising through our endurance events helps St. Jude do the incredible work they do to ensure families never receive a bill for their child’s treatment, housing, travel, or food and continue important research that will continue to reduce rates of pediatric cancer and other childhood diseases. I am so looking forward to running in Memphis again this December! 🎉 If you’ve ever thought of running a race that does so much good in the world, join me! I’d love to have you come to Memphis and run with me! Or you can always donate through the fundraising link in my bio. ❤️ #stjude #stjudeheroes #memphis #stjudedmv

When we bought our house 24 years ago, it came wit When we bought our house 24 years ago, it came with many things we didn’t love like rotted porch boards, 1 bathroom, and peeling paint (inside and out!) but it also came with things we did love like old, mature trees, crazy shaped boxwood bushes, and these spectacular peonies! 🌸 Every year when they bloom I’m so glad that these beauties conveyed with the purchase of our house and I’m glad we rebuilt our porch so we can step out our front door to admire them in their glory! 🩷#peonies #peonyseason #garden #blooms #spring
As a teacher and parent, I am well aware of the me As a teacher and parent, I am well aware of the mental health challenges our youth face and am really pleased to share that over the weekend I became certified in Youth Mental Health First Aid through the National Council for Mental Wellbeing! 🎉 I’ve always worked to build relationships with the young people in my life- whether my kids’ friends or students- and this certification has made me more mindful of the signs and symptoms of mental health challenges so I can have important and supportive conversations when symptoms first start to appear. 🗣️A big component of the training also included developing a self-care plan which is critical when supporting others. 💕 I’m so grateful to have taken this certification for free through the University of Maryland whose blended learning format (2 hours of self paced online work + 5 hour instructor led class over Zoom) was fantastic! 💻 The teacher in me really applauds the course design and I’m glad to join the 3 million+ in the U.S. certified in Youth Mental Health First Aid. 🏥 If this is something you’re interested in doing, University of Maryland has free courses on Saturdays or Sundays from 10-4pm between June-October. Swipe ⬅️ for more information, including a QR code with more information and a survey to take as part of the sign up process. And if you have any questions- leave a comment or DM me. I’m happy to help you get certified too! ❤️ #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthfirstaid #youthmentalhealth #mentalhealthawarenessmonth
