Sometimes it’s just nice to spend an afternoon catching up with friends. That’s what I got to do this weekend during our First Class Travel themed Snapfish party that Elena and I hosted to share our #Bloggers4Haiti travels with friends and fellow bloggers.
Our photo books helped tell the story of how beadwork, papier máche, paper bead jewelry, metal work, and horn jewelry pieces we had brought home from our trip were made.

Describing the work and having our guests see the intricate detail both in photos and from the pieces we brought home was wonderful. We loved talking about the process and the fact that the art creates a sustainable way for the artists to earn money and along with a sense of pride.

Griote, mushroom rice, and plantains— one of my favorite meals while in Haiti! |
While we weren’t able to replicate Griote (fried pork with peppers and onions pictured above), we were able to share Djon Djon, a delicious mushroom rice made out of black Haitian mushrooms, rum cake, and Haitian coffee. We also ate a lot of mangos and habaneros so some mango habanero salsa was in order- hence the chips!

We had a wonderful afternoon and our guests took home fun glasses, props for their own at-home photo sessions, and reusable bags filled with gift cards good for prints and photo books courtesy of HP.
