For anyone who loves games, E3 is the place to be. 2012 E3 kicked off yesterday, opening expo doors to reveal the latest titles from all the biggest names in the industry and providing attendees with the opportunity to play games and provide feedback to developers prior to the fall release dates. Multimillion dollar multi-level booths showcased various titles from companies such as Ubisoft, Sony, Nintendo, Activision, EA, Sega, Capcom, and more whose spaces provided sensory experiences designed to immerse attendees in the games.
Much like waiting in a queue for your favorite rides at Disney, players line up for a chance to get their hands on controllers to test out games. Assassin’s Creed (release date: Oct. 30), Hitman: Absolution (Nov. 20), and Halo 4 (Nov. 6) may not be family titles to let the kids play during family game night, there was certainly a lot of buzz and anticipation. More family friendly titles include Disney’s Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two for Wii (available October 1) and Brave that corresponds to the soon-to-be released movie. Just Dance 4 and Rabbids Land from Ubisoft are also going to be popular among younger gamers. Nostalgia was also a theme in games as Namco’s booth showcased PacMan while Sega is bringing back Sonic the Hedgehog. Madden football fans will be pleased to know that the Madden franchise is still going strong and EA will be coming out with Madden NFL 13 on August 28, 2012 for XBox Kinect and PlayStation systems. Those who enjoy driving games will love the new Forza Horizon for Xbox (Oct. 23).

In the console world, rumors of a Sony PlayStation 4 are still circulating while Nintendo debuted the WiiU. WiiU Game Pad is a hybrid handheld gaming device and a controller for your console system. It’s like playing on the PlayStation Vita and having it operate your Wii when in close proximity. Prototypes on hand at E3 seem large, WiiU features a large touch screen for playing games on the go that includes an accelerometer, gyroscope, and the rumble feel that Nintendo enthusiasts are used to. Learn more through the WiiU virtual hands on demonstration.

The unexpected highlight of the day was walking out of the Ubisoft booth into the Tekken space and getting there just in time for the announcement that the Tag Tournament 2 features a soundtrack by Snoop Dogg. Shortly after arriving, Snoop Dogg appeared to talk about how he’s always been a fan of the game. Video to come when I have a better wifi connection to complete the upload!

Here are some of my best photos from the first day at E3.
