Whether you’re a frequent business traveler, adventurer who loves to explore destinations around the globe, or enjoy relaxing with your family on a vacation, it’s always important to ensure the safety of your stuff. Working with Master Lock has allowed me to try a wide variety of the products and here are four favorites that help secure your belongings regardless of where you’re going and who you’re with.
Luggage locks— The last time I traveled to Haiti, my roommate arrived to our hotel to find that her luggage had been opened and rifled through after she had checked her bags at the gate. Jeans were found in a different pocket and a bag of bulbs that weren’t hers mysteriously appeared, sprinkling dirt on her belongings. We’re not sure if it was Haitian spirits trying to tell us something since the TSA hadn’t left their usual slip of paper inside but perhaps her bag might have been less tempting of a target if there had been a TSA friendly lock like the Master Lock 4688D on her bag.
Laptop Lock— I always travel with a bag full of electronics whether traveling for business or personally. I want to trust that I can leave my devices charging on the desk of my hotel room and they’ll be there when I return but I’ve learned to not be too trusting. One product that gives me peace of mind is the 2120DWD Laptop Lock. This portable lock secures your electronics by attaching to a stationary object but is compact enough that it doesn’t take up too much extra space in your bag.
Portable Lock Box— Nothing puts a damper on a vacation more than having your car keys, passport, and wallet stolen while enjoying a beautiful beach. Unfortunately we witnessed some thieves taking off with a family’s valuables when we were down the beach in St. Croix. They had left their clothes near a tree by an adjacent parking lot and when they went in the water, thieves swooped in and grabbed everything. Money, passports, hotel keys, and rental car keys were driving away from the beach well before the dad made it out of the water upon realizing what had happened. Not only is this a good lesson to leave things back in your hotel room in a secure place but having a device like a Lock Box certainly helps. After witnessing the theft in St. Croix, we’ll travel with Set Your Own Combination Personal Safe that is the perfect size to hold cell phones, car keys, and some cash locked to a tree or other stationary object for peace of mind while we enjoy the water.
Master Lock Vault— When traveling, it’s always important to be mindful of your internet connection. Public hotel wifi can wreak havoc on your computer, putting your login credentials at risk since you’re never sure who is on it and phishing for information. With one of the most prized documents on any computer being an electronic list of logins and passwords, it’s important to store your login credentials elsewhere. Since having them written down at home isn’t helpful when you’re away, I recommend Master Lock Vault that you can get as a free app on your iPhone. This secure cloud based system enables you to store passwords and copies of documents safely in the event you may need them while away from home.
