Everyone loves getting mail but mail is even better when it’s a box filled with goodies you get on a regular basis. Just like there’s an app for everything, there’s a subscription box for every age and interest and it’s been a pleasure seeing the wide variety of creative boxes out there.
I’ve curated 12 of my favorite subscription boxes for elementary ages, teens, and adults into a nice sized list to help you find a gift for someone you love that reminds them how much you care about them on a regular basis throughout the year. You can also use this guide to gently nudge someone else in the direction of a perfect present for you!

Little Passports World Edition ($13.95/month or $11.95/month for 12 months)
For ages 6-10
For families trying to teach their kids geography as you raise young global citizens, Little Passports is a fun way to start because the subscription is a ticket to an exciting global adventure. Kids ages 6-10 will enjoy traveling with fictional friends, Sam and Sophia, who find a magical scooter in a garage that takes them all over the world. The first month comes in the blue Explorers’ Kit suitcase filled with a passport, wall sized map of the world, welcome letter from Sam and Sophia, stickers, photos, and activity sheets, plus access to online games through the Boarding Zone. Pley (starting at $12.99/month)
For ages 0-12
Described as an online toy library, Pley is a toy subscription service that provides educational toys that are traded for new ones. It’s perfect for kids who need a toy refresh on a regular basis or families who like to liven up play with new things but don’t want to have too many toys in their home. Subscriptions are based on credits. Plans allow for kids to have one credit a month (Novice plan is $12.99/month) or The Wizard Plan that includes three credits/ month for the price of $29.99/month plus access to premium toys. The Toys for Rent page lists the available toys and the number of credits required to rent them. Once your child is done with the toy, it’s sent back and sanitized. It’s also ok if your child falls in love with the toy and doesn’t want to return it. You can click a button in your account page to keep it. The great thing about Pley is that as your child grows, they can select new toys according to their age and interest, without you having to buy new toys constantly and figuring out what to do with them when they’re done with them.
For Tweens and Teens
For ages 13+ (but my 10 year old is loving this!)
MakeCrate (3, 6 and 12 month subscriptions available starting at $120 for 3 months)
Our kids spend a lot of time at our local Maker Space partly because they have some of the coolest tools (a wall of 3D printers plus wood and metal engraving machines?!?) but they also love to create at home. MakeCrate is an awesome subscription box that contains materials that teach electronics, engineering, and coding principals through hands on projects each month that involve the Arudino board you get with your starter Make Kit. Step-by-step instructions are easy to follow plus there are online tutorials and access to a private online community where kids can download code, ask questions, and share successes with other MakeCraters. I love that MakeCrate boxes are just the right level of challenging and allow kids who feel at home around a maker studio to work on these independently. Plus none of the projects require soldering so they really can work on their own! Get 5% off 6 or 12 month subscriptions with the code MCH2016, good through December 20

Founded as a pop culture blog, PopSugar added subscription boxes to their media company to the delight of fans. Just as they provide the hottest trends and tips in entertainment, fashion, beauty, fitness, and food, their curated selection of products in each month’s box reflects how much they have their finger on the pulse of what women want because I’ve yet to find a dud inside any of the boxes I’ve received. Each box is centered around a theme found in the romantic book selection and includes some sexy surprises. The smart women who subscribe to Bawdy Bookworms also have access to an online community where they come together to talk about each quarter’s featured sexy book, share favorite reads, and chat just like your regular book club does. And if you’re worried that you’ll be stuck reading some cheesy romance novel, I encourage you to buy a single box because the books are always well written romances that will leave you yearning for your next Bawdy Bookworms box.
RoostCrate ($39.95 monthly, 3 months pre-paid $109, or 6 months pre-paid $219)
Those who love to wander local farmers’ markets and delight in the discovery of handcrafted goods created by small businesses will love Roost Crate. A Roost Crate subscription is like having a farmers’ market arrive right at your doorstep. Each beautifully packaged box contains carefully curated artisan goods that are introduced on a card bearing the monthly theme and a list of items with product information. My November box (pictured above) centered around Gathering Around the Table and smelled delicious upon opening it! The Collar City cranberry apple candle not only smelled delectable but I loved the two jewel tones that were reminiscent of a rosy red apple and cranberry sauce, giving new life to Thanksgiving turkey leftovers with the Autumn Turkey & Dumplings Mix, the reversible fabric coasters with a seasonal fall leaf theme on one side and geometric print on the other (yay for being able to use them beyond the holiday!), enjoying the Apple Pie Spreadable Fruit with brie, and munching on the Saratoga Crackers. I also appreciate the enclosure that came with the Hudson Standard Shrub that gave me great ideas on how to use this new-to-me brand of small batch cocktail bitters and syrups. Use the code THANKS to save 10%.
