6 Reasons to Stay at Georgetown Suites When Visiting Washington, DC

March 8, 2019 By Leticia

Washington, D.C. is a sought-after destination for families wanting to infuse lessons about United States history and government into a trip. The city has so much to offer but as a D.C. area resident for the past 21 years, I have a secret- stay outside the city during your visit. Certain areas of the city sort of shut down at night, leaving families feeling like they’re limited in terms of family friendly food options, things to do when the sun goes down, and the chance to experience the city outside museums and monuments but when you book a room at Georgetown Suites in Georgetown, you’ll get to experience a different side of Washington, DC that you’ll love.

Founded in 1751, Georgetown is D.C.’s oldest neighborhood. Today it may be well known as the original Georgetown Cupcake location and home of the Exorcist Stairs, but Georgetown is a neighborhood that has so much more to offer. Among historic brick and frame row houses, cobblestone streets, and grand estates you’ll find Georgetown Suites, a perfect place to stay for a new perspective on our Nation’s Capital.

6 Reasons to Stay at Georgetown Suites When Visiting Washington, DC

Georgetown Suites

As a Washington, D.C. area resident with kids, visiting friends often ask me where to stay during their visit. Having spent a long weekend at Georgetown Suites recently, the property won me over thanks to spacious family friendly suites that are nicely priced and located in a neighborhood that truly feels like home away from home. Read why Georgetown Suites is the perfect place to stay whether you’re coming for a long weekend or longer!

Spacious Suites in the Heart of Georgetown

If you’re like my family of 4, we always feel cramped in hotel rooms and like we’re spending our stay on top of each other. Georgetown Suites features one and two bedroom apartment-style suites with fully-equipped in-room kitchens. We enjoyed a one-bedroom suite that had a king bed, walk in closet, large bathroom with double sinks, a living room with a queen size pull out sofa, full kitchen (oven, stove, dishwasher, sink, place settings, and amenities), and dining table. If that doesn’t sound like enough room for your family, there are larger two-bedroom suites along with 2 bedroom townhouses that offer spacious living on two levels. Be sure to watch the above video for a peek inside Georgetown Suites’ amazing suites and the incredible views of Georgetown, The Kennedy Center, and Potomac River from some of their penthouse suites!

Suites with a View

There is an amazing collection of apartment-style suites that offer spectacular views of Washington, D.C. that are perfect for in-room relaxing during your trip.

You’ll want to you’re your time getting ready in the morning and admiring the city at night when you book a one of these suites and penthouse suites with jaw-dropping views of the Potomac River, Kennedy Center, and Georgetown!

Free Breakfast Buffet

We appreciate hotels that offer free breakfast but you and I both know that not all breakfast buffets are created equally! While some have a full spread of hot offerings featuring eggs, bacon, sausage, yogurt, oatmeal, and fruit, others satisfy patrons with more continental offerings of fruit, cereal, yogurt, and pastries. I was impressed by Georgetown Suites’ breakfast spread that included an espresso machine, hot sausage and egg biscuit sandwiches, Greek yogurt, fresh fruit, hard boiled eggs, cheese, and more. There were gluten free options as well as enough variety to satisfy picky eaters and those trying to stick to a meal plan.

The breakfast area is spacious so families won’t have to jockey for space or you can always bring your food upstairs and enjoy your meal at your in-suite dining table. During the day the breakfast area makes for a light-filled space to spread out and catch up on work.

Another bonus? Georgetown Suites’ espresso machine is available all day so you can grab a hot cup of your favorite coffee beverage or tea in a to-go cup before strolling the neighborhood.

Located in an Incredible Neighborhood with So Much to Offer

Founded in 1751, Georgetown is D.C.’s oldest neighborhood. Today it may be well known as the original Georgetown Cupcake location, home of the Exorcist Stairs, and where gothic style university buildings are where Hoyas come to learn but Georgetown is a neighborhood that has so much more to offer.

It’s both a destination and playground for shopping, dining, history, fitness, and family fun that will make you want to unplug and try new things while enjoying the neighborhood. A full post with a complete list of things to do during your stay in Georgetown is coming next week!

Friendly, Accommodating Staff

How many times have you stayed in a hotel that just feels like a hotel? Georgetown Suites admits that they don’t have a flashy lobby but the minute you step into the property, you’re warmly welcomed by the wonderful staff who and I’d have to agree. The long-tenured staff is anything stiff and strictly-business. They’re genuine, taking personal interest in your happiness because Georgetown Suites is their home too. It’s nice to know that so many have worked their entire careers at the property especially an industry where there can be lots of turnover.

The welcoming staff definitely sets the tone for your stay the minute you walk in the door. I admit that when my husband and I first checked in, I forgot that there were two Georgetown Suites buildings– the Courtyard and Harbour Building. I was already feeling a little stressed because we had arrived later than expected and of course, I stopped at the wrong one first. The kind staff member at the front desk greeted me with a smile while reassuring me that all was fine. He drew me a map to the location around the corner and called ahead and let the other building’s front desk know I was on my way.

Competitive Rates and 20% Discount Code

It’s not cheap to stay in Washington, D.C. but Georgetown Suites offers their guests a lot more during their stay thanks to spacious suites, free breakfast, a nice staff, and a neighborhood that quickly feels like home. Like other DC hotels, Georgetown Suites rates vary depending on the time of year. Expect rates starting at as little as $125/night during the low season of summer and winter and beginning at $275/night during high season of spring and fall.

If you’re interest in visiting Washington, D.C. during this year’s cherry blossom bloom (expected the first week of April!), take advantage of their Cherry Blossom package running now through the end of April which includes free self-parking in an on-site garage.

If you’re planning to come at another time of year, book directly on the Georgetown Suites site and use the code BLOG to enjoy 20% off regular rates. For more information, visit the Georgetown Suites website, like them on Facebook, and follow them on Instagram.

Huge thanks to Georgetown Suites for hosting me and my family for a long weekend. No compensation was received for this post or the video and all opinions are my own.

This year seems like the year of a million first d This year seems like the year of a million first days of school but today has been the best one yet! 🎉 Being in person with my 8th graders who elected to return to school felt amazing. They all said being in school was far better than being on Zoom! 👩‍💻 After not feeling like I had closure last year when schools closed and stayed closed, it is so nice to end the year this way before my students become high schoolers! 🎈

Fortunately, I was recently introduced to The Juice Interactive News Digest! The Juice provides fantastic unbiased content written by credentialed journalists that teaches kids in grades 5-12 about current events in an age-appropriate way. 🌎 Stories are the real deal and provide multiple opinions so kids can use critical thinking and media literacy skills to develop their own opinions. And as a bonus, The Juice’s multimedia content is highly engaging and keeps kids wanting to learn through videos on topics they’re interested in. 🎥 For more information, check out the link in my bio. ⤴️

➡️ If you feel like you're never looking in the right place, sunglasses can help. They hide your eyes and can take the pressure off. 🕶
➡️ Figure out what hand you're most comfortable using to snap photos. I'm right handed so usually take photos with my right hand but every once and awhile I switch. 👋
➡️ Find your best angle. Pro tip- higher is better. Go above your eye level. 👀
➡️ Stretch! Hold your arm out as far as possible. I'm short so my arms are short but somehow I make it work. 😂
➡️ A Pop Socket is your friend! Having something to hold on to definitely helps me stretch and get the best angle with less worry that I'll drop my phone.
➡️ Practice! Get in the photo! You'll get more comfortable with your selfie skills. I promise!

Surviving this day of testing was really about so much more so why not celebrate with cake! 🎂 And as you can see, Goldie thought she should get some too! 🐾

Perhaps that's because I was busy outside which just happened to be yesterday's #everydayphotoaday prompt. 😂 I expected it to be a rainy weekend but overnight storms made for a gorgeous weekend. ☀️ The first baseball game of the season was cancelled due to soggy fields and as much as I was looking forward to watching my guy play again, it was nice having the gift of time. 🕚 My husband and I had time to take Goldie for a long walk and swim and appreciate these gorgeous cherry blooms along the way. 🌸 How was your weekend? If you're planning a visit to the island, grab a pair of plastic gloves at the entrance to browse an amazing collection of new and used books. It's one of our favorite places to shop while in town! 📚
