What is Amazon Prime Day?
Amazon Prime Day is an annual two-day sales event created by Amazon. Today and tomorrow there will be tons of top-selling products on sale, exclusively for Amazon Prime subscribers.
In addition to huge savings over the next two days, there are other benefits of Prime membership. Amazon also offers a Student Prime Membership with benefits geared towards students. Both Prime and Student Prime members can take advantage of Amazon Prime Day savings, exclusive for Prime members.
Save Money on College Essentials During Amazon Prime Day
For parents whose kids are heading to college for the first time, it can be hard to wrap your head around what your student truly needs. There’s no shortage of college shopping lists online and in parent Facebook groups. While those lists may be helpful, we found that what was suggested by those lists and what my daughter truly needed differed.
My advice is to look for a list published by the college or ask other parents whose kids attend the same school. Bonus if you’re able to connect with a parent whose kid lived in the same dorm as yours will!

Suite and Apartment Essentials
If your college student is sharing a suite or just prefers to have their own set of stuff, now is the time to save money on college essentials during Amazon Prime Day. If they’re living in an apartment, have them coordinate with suite and housemates to figure out who is bringing what before making any purchases.
This summer, our daughter moved into a different dorm with a shared kitchen while she lives and works on campus doing summer research. Not sure what the dorm kitchen might have, I bought her some kitchen essentials.
