When I was young, my parents had season theater tickets. For years, I looked forward to going to a Sunday matinee performance of a musical followed by dinner out. We saw a lot of memorable shows, including Annie. Next week Annie the Musical opens in Washington, DC at the National Theatre and whether you’ve never seen it or seen it too many times to count, this loveable story that celebrates family and reminds us of the power of a positive outlook even when life throws hard knocks at us is not one to miss.
About Annie: The Musical
Based on Harold Gray’s popular comic strip, Little Orphan Annie, tells the story of an orphan who ends up living in luxury with Depression-era billionaire, Oliver Warbucks. Kids and adults alike will be captivated by the plot that is all about having the determination to hold on to hope when times are tough.
Little Orphan Annie is a charming and plucky character who has reminded generation of theatergoers that the sun will come out tomorrow.
If you’re planning to take your kids to see Annie for the first time, read my post, 6 Things to Do Before You Go (+3 for After the Show). Providing kids with some background information allows them to better understand what they’re seeing and it never hurts to review proper theater behavior so everyone can enjoy the show.
Annie is recommended for ages 8 and up. It is about 2 hours and 30 minutes and has one intermission.
