Today is the last day of summer before a new school year starts on Monday. It’s always a bittersweet time for the excitement of looking forward to a new school year mixed with sadness that’s summer is over. It also means that one of our 18 summers together is gone.
18 summers. That’s how many summers Disney executive, Amy Foster, said we have with our kids before the college years begin. When I heard this number from Amy while sitting in the audience at Disney Social Media Momsthis past April, the number stuck.
18 summers. 12 more summers with Captain Computer. 10 left with Little Miss Techie.
I always love our summers together but this year I had a conscious determination to make the most of our time together and have no regrets.

Visiting the Liberty Bell during Digital Family Summit |
Between the necessary work and job related trips, return to a camp the kids have been going to for years and absolutely love, requisite time with grandparents, and plugging away at summer packets that we’ll happily turn back into school on Monday, we had a lot of fun!

Captain Computer at Ubisoft’s Just Dance party at Digital Family |
An incredible trip 2 1/2 week long to China, Hong Kong, and Japan where we traveled with my parents, brother, and sister-in-law, a road trip to Philly for Digital Family Summit, lots of time at the pool and another successful dive season, day trips around the DC area to some of our favorite haunts, and days where we just went with the flow and puttered around the house, never leaving!

Playing Mario Kart in a Japanese arcade on the last day of our trip |
I think we made the most of our summer and our time together. I have no regrets. Only happy memories. After all, who knows what next summer will bring.
How did you spend your summer? Do you have any regrets?
Our international travel was personally paid for. Olympus provided me with a PEN-PL3 to capture our summer through photos. As a media partner and conference speaker, I received conference passes to attend Digital Family Summit. I paid a registration fee to attend Disney Social Media Moms. I received discount hotel stays and complimentary items from Walt Disney World. This post is based on my own experience and all opinions are my own.
