Usually coming back from vacation is difficult but not when you have a great DC Metro Moms (DCMM) party to come home to.
Dubbed the Un-Election Party, our get together was had nothing to do with politics but all about bringing many of the talented blogging moms who I usually see in my Google reader together in real life. The event was all about free food, free drink, and free rides. Yes, that’s right. Thanks to our sponsor, Chevy, we were chauffeured home so no one had to be designated driver this time.
Some of my DCMM cronies, who had been enjoying tooling around in their Chevy Traverses for a week, swung by to pick me up. Sitting shotgun in the vehicle, I was immediately overwhelmed by the technological options that the Traverse came with that put my car to shame. Yes, me Tech Savvy Mama overwhelmed! There was *that* much technology in the car!
Like moth to flame I immediately was drawn to the screen in the center of the console which was the touch screen navigation. It was bright, big, and pretty! As the designated navigator, I tried to type in our party destination. I was expecting the screen to function more like an iPhone or iPod Touch where you could just slide your finger across the screen or give it a quick tap to get it to work. Instead, I had to press on the screen pretty firmly to type in a location. The pressing on the screen wasn’t so bad but we couldn’t bring up directions to our destination even after entering in the address. Luckily OnStar to the rescue! Our OnStar angel was immediately helpful and had us heading in the right direction in no time.
The Traverse also came equipped with a backup camera which would be great for me except I tend to knock off the passenger side mirrors when backing up. Don’t ask why but it has happened to me twice- once recently, once in high school. So Chevy, please e-mail me when you make some cameras for the sides of your vehicles!
The car also had XM Radio that was quickly drowned out by us catching up and a DVD entertainment system in the back that could easily enthrall the 6 guests but when you roll with the DCMMs, no additional entertainment is necessary! Just ask Rich from New Jersey who met us as the end of the party to drive us home. Rich deserves a shout out and a bonus from Chevy just for putting up with us post-party!
A note about the XM Radio…If Little Miss Techie and Captain Computer had been in the Traverse with me and had known that their all time favorite band Rocknoceros is part of the lineup on XMKIDS, I don’t think I’d ever be able to get them out of the car since they would wait for their favorite songs to come on. They are already addicted to the Rocknoceros podcasts (aka Rocknoceros Podnoceros) from iTunes but that’s a story for another day.
And even though I remembered my camera, there were so many other people taking pictures that I thought I’d just use theirs. Click here to see pictures taken by party planner and bloggess extrodinare Nicole from Banana Blueberry.
Thanks Chevy for putting on a great event and allowing me to experience the cool technology in the new Traverse since I’ll always take any excuse to see my fellow DCMMs!
