Still without a Mother’s Day gift? For any mom with an iPhone, the iTunes store offers instant gratification for the music loving game playing mom on the go. Load mom’s device up with applications you know will make her life easier or find some cool games to help her pass the time while waiting at the pediatrician’s office, in the carpool line, or in the ever-present line at the post office.

Maybe the mom in your life doesn’t consider herself a gamer but if she’s like me and can appreciate classic games like Centipede, Asteroids, and Breakout once played on an Atari, she might appreciate the addition of a new game on her iPhone or a cool retro shirt depicting a game from her youth.

After being a fan of PacMan Lite, the free trial version where users can play up to a certain level, I downloaded the full version of PacMan ($5.99). Playing on my iPhone brings me back to the days of playing Atari at my best friend’s house. The game is exactly like the one I remember from my childhood, complete with the same music on the menu screen, sounds, ghosties (remember Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde?), and cherries to munch on but with a touchscreen joystick to control PacMan’s every move. PacMan is unbelievably easy on the eyes despite being a mobile version presented on the iPhone’s 3 ½” screen. The graphics are sharper and brighter due to a higher resolution screen than the pixilated TVs from the 80s.

I like that I have the ability to pause and restart games on the mobile version of PacMan. As a mom who is subjected to constant interruptions and major crises throughout the day, it is reassuring to know that the game I started eons ago will be saved on my phone for the next time I have a chance to play.
