So each night I’ve been spending a few minutes on the Sony Digital Imaging site practicing in the Free Play Mode. Free Play Mode allows you to play each of the three games by themselves but unfortunately your scores don’t count towards the contest. However, it is good practice for Contest Mode where you have to beat all three games in a row to enter to win the prizes. So far my previous attempts in Contest Mode have failed miserably and I’m no closer to winning anything.
As I mentioned, you have to beat all three games to enter the actual contest for a chance to win the Sony loot. Here’s a rundown of what I’ve learned from practicing each of the three games so far:
- Objective– Pick the smiles out of the rest of the faces and hit next to move on to the next set of faces. The game starts out easy, with 4 faces on the screen and then becomes more difficult as the faces get smaller and there are more on the page.
- Tip– Be sure to turn up the resolution on your monitor and put one of those magnifying panels over your screen to avoid clicking on the frowning faces to avoid eye strain as you attempt to find all the smiling faces.
- Gotcha– Click carefully though because by clicking on three or more nonsmilers, your game ends.
- Objective: Match the blurred image with one of the three faces below. This game also starts out easy, with one blurred image and a set of three images below and gets progressively harder.
- Tip– Use the background to aid you in identifying faces faster. If the background is light in the blurry image, select the blurred image with the light blurry background.
- Gotcha– You have to be quick because if the images come into focus before you match the blurry image to the actual picture, you lose and have to start again.
- Objective– Pretend to use an Alpha camera’s swiveling viewfinder to keep your subject in view by moving the mouse to control the viewfinder. Your task is to click on the images as they scroll by and the challenge is to collect a certain number of images to move on to the next level.
- Tip: Just pretend you are playing a shooting game in an arcade or a carnival. Get those flying images in the viewfinder and click.
- Gotcha: You have to be fast or your game ends!

Whoa! Those are pretty hard. Of course, I didn’t try your tips. I might have to tomorrow. It’s a great tool to show the power of the cameras.
I really hope I win those headphones. I’ve been lusting over some for quite some time.
Thanks for hosting the contest.

I played all three, in Free Play mode . I don’t think I’m quite ready for Contest mode yet. I didn’t do well my first try at the HandyCam game but finally managed to complete the round on my second try.
You’re right, I had a lot of trouble seeing the smiling faces when there were more blocks of faces on the screen in the Cyber-shot game..they were so tiny! I was squinting on that last frame of faces..couldn’t tell if the little boy at the top was pulling his mouth into a smile or a grimace.
I really liked the AlphaGame except there was such a hesitation when moving my mouse..it wouldn’t move fast enough, it was almost like pulling through molasses at times but it made it more of a challenge to try to shoot all the faces required.

I love that you can practice. I finished game 2 & 3, just need to work on game 1. Those smiling faces get hard to pinpoint. The 2nd game was cool & I enjoyed the third game. I liked that it lights up green when you have the photo insight. Thanks for blogging about this!
I just played for the contest & got entered, woo hoo!

I practiced first. I finished game 1 & 2., Some of the smile were MonaLisaish so that threw me off.
The headphones look great! Hope I win.

I really liked the first game, the second game was over too quick. Go Sony!
I agree with the other posters, that is difficult! I did re-read all your tips (looking at the background for clues) however I’m just not quick enough! Practice makes perfect! lol Great camera 🙂
I subscribe! 🙂
Thanks for the great giveaways!
whoa. I am really bad at finding those smiles. i played in free mode and tried 6 times. now I am exhausted. I always got caught by the kid with his mouth open… I guess I need to practice more. As the pics got smaller, I really got bad, but it seems like once you “know” the smiles, you just have to recognize them. I went for my eye exam yesterday, I’ll try again when my glasses come in!
I subscribe.
Thanks for the chance to win those awesome headphones!
i tried to do the focusing camera game. i thought it would be easier than it was. i don’t think i’ll be winning the camera anytime soon.

Free Play mode was still kind of hard… which is embarrassing. I liked the Cybershot game, except I couldn’t see the faces too clearly. Otherwise, it was pretty fun.

Trying to focus the camera was actually REALLY hard…I wasn’t expecting these games to be so difficult

Maybe it’s cause it’s just so late, but….whoa,I’m bad! I’ll have to come back when I’m fresh and see if I can memorize those faces. They get so small as you go on that it’s really hard to see if they’re smiling!

Thanks for the great reviews you do!
I found the Alpha Camera game very difficult because my computer is a bit slower then most. I somehow managed to get a score of 7k! I wonder how high my score would have to be in order to win(top 20)?
