Sure, BlogHer was great but it was missing so many of the great people who make up the fabulous blogging community I’m part of. I especially missed Jessica from A Parent in Silver Spring who was my roommate for BlogHer09 and my inspiration for starting my own site.
Jessica and I have known each other pre-blogging, having met at a Moms’ Club get together when our first borns were only 6 months old and quickly became a good friend. When Jessica started A Parent in Silver Spring, a fabulous local resource for families, I was the occasional guest poster and wrote about whatever I wanted. Sometimes technology, occasionally education, our favorite local resources, but most often our favorite places to eat. For awhile I dismissed Jessica’s urgings to start my own site (“You could be the Fraiser to my Cheers!) but you can tell how that ended.
This year Jessica couldn’t make it to BlogHer. As I write this, she’s probably unpacking boxes in her new home or picking out what to wear to a friends’ upcoming wedding but I hope she can join me next year.
Where am I going with this nostalgia?
Mabel’s Labels stopped me on the final day of BlogHer and asked if they could give me a chance to win a trip to BlogHer 2010 in NYC for me and a friend. They asked whom I would bring to BlogHer who wasn’t here this year and without hesitation I rambled on about Jessica while they shot video.
Now I’m one of the top 10 finalists in their contest and I’m crossing my fingers they randomly choose me and Jess as the winners on Tuesday.
You can watch me ramble and the videos of the other 9 finalists on the Mabel’s Labels blog, The Mablehood.
OMG! I hope we win!
Huge thanks to Amy (aka Teach Mama) for alerting me to the fact that I was a finalist and who gave Jessica a second chance by naming her in the video that Mabel’s Labels took of her.
