As many of you know, I am a big fan of LeapFrog. My love of their educational products began with the LeapPad. Well before I had kids, I realized the educational value of an interactive book and fell in love.
It has always been my dream to some day work for LeapFrog. As many of you know, I have been contributing to LeapFrog’s Community for quite awhile. While not a paid venture, it was a job I took seriously because I enjoyed sharing educational value of their products from a teacher and parent perspective.
Very recently my unpaid venture became a paid venture as I joined with 3 wonderful kindergarten through third grade teachers (who also happen to be moms!) on the LeapFrog Community. Shelby Moore, Maxine Adams, and Lia Freitas and I each have a weekly column on the Community site and were recently asked to share the spirit of giving through LeapFrog’s The Gift of Giving.
What is The Gift of Giving?
So often, the true meaning of the holidays is lost in the mad rush to find and buy the perfect gift, which ends up sending the wrong message to our children. What about giving, celebrating, and spending time with family and friends?
To celebrate the spirit of giving and the true spirit of the holidays, I need your help.
LeapFrog is donating a huge collection of products for me to give to those in need and I need your assistance in determining who will get them.
To start, I need your ideas!
Will the LeapFrog toys go to a local Boys and Girls Club, a needy family identified by a local church or school, or Toys for Tots? Do you know of a family in your community with children ranging from infants to age 8 who will not have a holiday due to the economy? Is there an amazing foster family who opens their home to children in need who could benefit?
Who could benefit from this nice gift?
Open your minds and your hearts because I need you to leave your ideas in the comments for this national search. I’m casting my net wide and will select 5 recipients among your many ideas. Then I just need you to come back to this site and vote to determine our lucky recipient.
Is there a catch? No.
Is LeapFrog paying me to do this? No, not on this site. I will be writing my weekly column each week over on the LeapFrog Community to document the process but participating inThe Gift of Giving campaign was completely voluntary.
So let’s hear it. Leave a comment and tell me who should benefit from the wonderful educational toys that LeapFrog makes this holiday season.
Think big and don’t forget to leave your e-mail since I will need to contact the top contenders for additional details prior to the voting.
Thanks very much for opening your minds and hearts this holiday season to help others since it is better to give than to receive.
I knew I could count on you! Now please leave a comment!

I vote for the Parent Resource Center, the Silver Spring location. We attended it for the last 2 years and it’s been great for Sophia.
Due to MoCo’s budget cuts this year, they have no money for new toys, materials, etc. Even Lauren, the person who runs the SS location, has had to work less hours/days just so the center can be open. She often purchases toys and supplies out of pocket.
The PRC is a great resource for many parents and young children. I think they would benefit greatly from LeapFrog toys.
Hi- We are a community foundation serving the cities west of Boston. This year, Massachusetts has closed transitional shelters and families are now housed at hotels until permanent housing is found 6-10 mos for many families. In one hotel in our community 95 familes with 125 under age 5 live without any services. Recently the children were each given one book, collected by a local school. Leapfrog would be an amazing gift for these children, who have no access to early childhood ed or services. Please consider helping these children who have no permanent home.

Leticia, The company I work for, Fixation Marketing will be working with Greentree Shelter in Bethesda for . Greentree Shelter is a transitional home for families (mostly single mothers and children) and helps them rebuild their lives through providing basic needs as well as a counseling, case management, life and career skills training, and substance abuse prevention and education. Greentree is also the only shelter in Montgomery County with an on-site child care center. Here is the link for more information:

Our favorite children’s charity is Treehouse in Seattle. They provide services and items to children in the US Foster Care system. http://www.treehouse4kids.org
We are not affiliated with this group, we are just supporters.
i am a part of a family empowerment center here in rogers park, chicago, il. i think either they could use the leapfrog stuff for their after-school program or they could identify students who would really benefit from that kind of technology…

There is a new cooperative effort on behalf on local schools in my area to help teach English to immigrant families. The ELL (Eng. Language Learners) has modest childcare facilities and I think this would be an awesome addition to the center. What doesn’t match their needs would go to a local library or perhaps a local school.
