Our family loves attending live theater performances and while recently attending the Nutcracker at the Warner Theater, a flyer for STOMP caught our eye. Tech Savvy Daddy and I loved the high energy percussion performance of STOMP years ago when I lived in Boston and knew it would be the perfect treat for our kids during the cold month of January.
If you aren’t familiar with STOMP, it’s a show where everyday objects- think brooms, trash can lids, Zippo lighters, and basketballs are used to as instruments for an incredible live show.
Take a look at what you can expect at STOMP! Using brooms as instruments has always been one of my favorite parts of the show!
Here’s additional information about STOMP from their local promotions firm:
STOMP, the international percussion sensation, stomps its way into the District January 25-30th and playing at the Warner Theatre. From its beginnings as a street performance in the UK, STOMP has grown into an international sensation over the past thirteen years, having performed in over 350 cities in 36 countries worldwide. STOMP continues its phenomenal run with the ongoing sell-out Off-Broadway production at New York’s Orpheum Theatre, a North American tour, and two productions overseas – a permanent London company and a European tour.
STOMP, an overwhelming success marked by rave reviews, numerous awards, and sell-out engagements, is the winner of an Olivier Award for Best Choreography (London’s Tony Award), a New York Obie Award, a Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatre Experience, and a Special Citation from Best Plays. The young performers “make a rhythm out of anything we can get our hands on that makes a sound,” says co-creator/director Luke Cresswell. Stiff-bristle brooms become a sweeping orchestra; Zippo lighters flip open and closed to create a fiery fugue; wooden poles thump and clack in a rhythmic explosion. STOMP uses everything but conventional percussion instruments – trashcans, tea chests, plastic bags, plungers, boots, and hubcaps – to fill the stage with compelling and infectious rhythms.

I love the creativity behind STOMP and am fully aware that the performance may inspire some post-show banging in our house that may send me running for ear plugs but we’re still going!
We personally purchased our STOMP tickets. No compensation was received for this post.
