The one piece of technology that I use daily besides my laptop and smartphone is our Tivo. We use it to record our favorite shows to have them at our disposal at all times, fast forward through commercials because I’ve gotten too impatient to wait (unless watching the Super Bowl), and find that it’s an indispensable tool for watching any awards show.
It’s definitely a crucial tool in watching each year’s Oscars. While you may be thinking that its best use is to fast forward through the boring parts of the Academy Awards, it can also used to help you relive favorite moments of nominated movies or catch up on nominated films before Sunday night.
TiVo has introduced an exclusive “Award Winning Films” feature for its users as part of its TiVo Collections. This collection delivers Oscar award-winning films organized by decade as well as this year’s nominated films available through their cable lineup or on demand from Web partners like Amazon Video On Demand (VOD), Netflix or BLOCKBUSTER.
This feature is great especially if you’re like us and are kind of behind on watching the movies up for awards before Sunday’s Academy Awards. Amazon VOD has nominated movies including Inception, The Kids Are All Right, The Social Network, Toy Story 3 and Winter’s Bone, available to download to your broadband-connected TiVo.
If you’re up to date on your Oscar nominated films and have filled out your picks, TiVo can also be used to:

- Plan an Oscar Flashback Weekend Marathon – Catch up on past winners with the ability to view Oscar winning films by past decades. Whether you want Rain Man from 1988 or Forrest Gump from 1994, you can find and watch with just a few clicks of the peanut remote.
- Browse For Your Favorite Stars – It’s not just about the films, but about actors and the performance. Users can browse for award-winning actors and actresses, and even directors, to watch them as other characters and roles.
By the way, did you know that there’s a TiVo iPad App for use with TiVo Premier and Premier XL boxes? From the description, it sounds very cool!

We had two DirecTV tivo receivers ….. but one died and they sent us a non-Tivo DVR… and I cried. I dislike it so much! The Tivo is so much better!
