Fabulous Bloggers I Met at SheCon Who are Must Reads

May 25, 2011 By Leticia

Thanks to Trop50 for sponsoring my writing about fabulous bloggers. This year Trop50 is granting 50 Fabulous Wishes. Click here to enter for a chance to win $1,000 to celebrate a friend with a refreshing attitude about looking and feeling fabulous!

Over the weekend I attended SheCon.  Held in South Beach, this freshman conference billed as a new media expo allowed me to meet lots of bloggers outside my usual circles and actually spend time talking to those I usually just wave to at the larger conferences.  I met so many amazing women this weekend that they were the inspiration for my Trop50 post!
Here are 5 women from SheCon that are must-reads:

Charlene Chronicles— Boston area dwelling Charlene is a lawyer whose site is geared towards “budget savvy moms who still want to be fabulous” but I love her site because she’s savvy about social media.  Char isn’t afraid to share her thoughts in a highly professional way to assist fellow bloggers in taking their sites to the next level.  Favorite posts include Brands, Bloggers, and Conferences and Top 5 Legal Tips.  She also hosts Social Toast, a weekly show on UStream about the “best and worst things in the realm of Social Media” because “whatever you need, Social Toast will have you buttered…err, covered.”  I just love that!  Follow Char: @charchronicles and @thesocialtoast

Holdin’ Out For a Hero— Laurita Tellado is on a mission to find a national spokesperson for people with spina bifida by attending conferences and sharing her knowledge of the condition that affects her.  Laura is smart, funny, and sweet and we would have met at Blogalicious last year had it not been for a family member’s health mishap.  She’s also a budding paparazzi.  Laura photographed a Lindsay Lohan photo shoot taking place at the hotel next door, tweeted a photo, and sold her photos.  Oh, and then she happened to run into the star during lunch, had a photo taken with her and later Lindsay tweeted a photo of Laura’s biz card!  With such an amazing presence, I think that Laura would make the perfect national spokesperson for spina bifida!  Spina bifida facts from Laura’s site: Spina bifida being the number one cause of paralysis in children in America and more common than muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, and cystic fibrosis combined.  Follow Laura: @Laurita86

Ecorazzi— Co-founded by Rebecca Carter, Ecorazzi started in 2006 and is a beautifully designed award-winning site that covers the latest green celebrity gossip and entertainment news in a fun and non-stuffy, non-boring way.  Read the eco headlines for the latest green film & TV, music, fashion, cars & houses, and animal news.  Learn why Chef Gordon Ramsay is in trouble with animal rights groups, which music group is going vegetarian for their new tour, and who honeymooned in a country renowned for sustainable tourism.  I feel so much better catching up on gossip here than over on Perez!  Follow Rebecca: @RebeccaCarter

Lela Davidson— She had me at the title of her soon-to-be-released book, Blacklisted from the PTA.  But as I found out through the course of the weekend, Lela’s hilarious both in real life and in print.  Having just gotten an advance copy of her new book, I loved hearing the inside story on the process of choosing the cover over dinner and laughed when I read about how her addiction to social networking makes her want to have another baby just so she can tweet the birth. If I Had Tweeted My Labor = pure LOL funny especially at the end when she quips about the number of new followers she’d get!  Besides her book (due out July 12), Lela’s blog tackles topics that set my tech savvy heart aflutter like Social Media: Not Just for Social Butterflies, a primer for anyone who “doesn’t want to be bothered by social media sites.”  Follow Lela: @LelaDavidson

Be a Wok Star— Besides being an awesome blog name, Eleanor Hoh’s site is all about creating healthy and fun weeknight dinners without recipes.  She’s the creator of My Ultimate Wok Star Kit and her blog is both for foodies who love to follow celebrity chefs like Michelle Bernstein and those who need some cooking tips.  Learn how to stir fry summer veggies, which stir fry could serve as a side dish to your Thanksgiving meal, and tips on mixing and matching stir fry ingredients.  Follow Eleanor: @WokStar

These fabulous five women are now added to my reader for all eternity and I hope you’ll add them to yours too.  Who are your must reads?  Leave a link below to share their fantastic sites with us!

Don’t forget to enter the 50 Fabulous Wishes contest for a chance to win $1,000 to celebrate a friend with a refreshing attitude about looking and feeling fabulous. I was selected for this Tropicana Trop50 sponsorship by the Clever Girls Collective, which endorses Blog With Integrity, as I do. I received compensation to use and facilitate my post.

Clever Girls also sponsored my trip to SheCon.

Today we’re celebrating National Rescue Dog Day Today we’re celebrating National Rescue Dog Day because we’re so glad Goldie and Murphy are part of our family! 🐶 We gave Goldie her forever home when she was 6 months old. She had been given up by her original family because she was just too much for them. She was an enthusiastic pup who loved to jump straight up in the air when she got excited and she used to hop the fence in the mornings to go visit her best dog friend, Katy, over our back fence. She still jumps from standing when she sees a deer, meets a favorite dog friend, or gets a visit from @lisatasch but now at age 5, she’s more calm and forever faithful. 🦮We met Murphy and his 9 brothers and sisters just days after he was born although we didn’t know he would be the puppy we’d claim as ours. Murphy has that puppy energy but in his quiet moments is a total love bug. He hogs the free space in our king bed (he even has his own pillow!) and loves nothing more than to press his body into me or lie directly on me. 🐾 Goldie and Murphy came to us through @labrescuelrcp and we couldn’t be happier that they’re part of our family! ❤️ #rescuedogday #labrescue #labrador #adoptdontshop
After 3 days at St. Jude Children’s Research Hos After 3 days at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, I’m leaving Memphis so very grateful to be able to support St. Jude’s mission of working to end childhood cancer. ❤️ Spending time connecting, brainstorming, and absorbing the wisdom of fellow Hero Ambassadors from around the country was inspiring because the work we do fundraising through our endurance events helps St. Jude do the incredible work they do to ensure families never receive a bill for their child’s treatment, housing, travel, or food and continue important research that will continue to reduce rates of pediatric cancer and other childhood diseases. I am so looking forward to running in Memphis again this December! 🎉 If you’ve ever thought of running a race that does so much good in the world, join me! I’d love to have you come to Memphis and run with me! Or you can always donate through the fundraising link in my bio. ❤️ #stjude #stjudeheroes #memphis #stjudedmv

When we bought our house 24 years ago, it came wit When we bought our house 24 years ago, it came with many things we didn’t love like rotted porch boards, 1 bathroom, and peeling paint (inside and out!) but it also came with things we did love like old, mature trees, crazy shaped boxwood bushes, and these spectacular peonies! 🌸 Every year when they bloom I’m so glad that these beauties conveyed with the purchase of our house and I’m glad we rebuilt our porch so we can step out our front door to admire them in their glory! 🩷#peonies #peonyseason #garden #blooms #spring
As a teacher and parent, I am well aware of the me As a teacher and parent, I am well aware of the mental health challenges our youth face and am really pleased to share that over the weekend I became certified in Youth Mental Health First Aid through the National Council for Mental Wellbeing! 🎉 I’ve always worked to build relationships with the young people in my life- whether my kids’ friends or students- and this certification has made me more mindful of the signs and symptoms of mental health challenges so I can have important and supportive conversations when symptoms first start to appear. 🗣️A big component of the training also included developing a self-care plan which is critical when supporting others. 💕 I’m so grateful to have taken this certification for free through the University of Maryland whose blended learning format (2 hours of self paced online work + 5 hour instructor led class over Zoom) was fantastic! 💻 The teacher in me really applauds the course design and I’m glad to join the 3 million+ in the U.S. certified in Youth Mental Health First Aid. 🏥 If this is something you’re interested in doing, University of Maryland has free courses on Saturdays or Sundays from 10-4pm between June-October. Swipe ⬅️ for more information, including a QR code with more information and a survey to take as part of the sign up process. And if you have any questions- leave a comment or DM me. I’m happy to help you get certified too! ❤️ #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthfirstaid #youthmentalhealth #mentalhealthawarenessmonth
