I was sitting at dinner in Austin with AMD during our #AMDTechMom trip when Kris Cain said that Steve Jobs had died. Part of me hoped it was a Twitter rumor though I knew it probably wasn’t. We quickly confirmed the news via ABC, found the announcement on Apple’s home page, and were silent before talking about our experiences with Apple products.
Sarah pulled up this classic Apple ad from 1984 that mentioned the Macintosh. Michele McGraw talked about the Apple II and plans to preorder the iPhone 4s as I thought about the many Apple products that I’ve used throughout the years.
Regardless if you are a Mac or a PC, Steve Jobs vision for Apple has forever changed the landscape of technology.
From the Apple II to the Macintosh, the first iPod with the wheel to today’s Nano, MacBook Air, iPads, and the ability to purchase and download content to iTunes. No one can deny the innovation that Steve Jobs brought to Apple Computer and how their products have forever changed the way we use technology and interact with content.
In honor or Steve Jobs, I wanted to share this quote from his 2005 commencement address to the graduating class at Stanford University:
“Your time is limited so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma, which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”
RIP Steve Jobs. You will be missed.
