With grandparents who travel the world and my upcoming trip to Haiti, our kids are fascinated with geography. Since we look forward to trips that span the globe, we love that they have an interest in places around the world, different cultures, and the Earth itself.
Here are a few gift picks from HearthSong that help foster global understanding in an age appropriate way that are sure to arrive by Christmas when ordered on or before December 18:

Illuminated Orion Relief Globe ($49.95) |
I’ve always wanted to get a globe for our house and happen to love our Illuminated Orion Relief Globe with Non-Tip Base ($49.95) because it has a raised surface to indicate the Earth’s topography, boundaries that can be seen when the globe is lit, meridian lines, a raised equator, and a very sturdy base so the globe can be rotated endlessly. This is a wise investment since it’s a gift that a family will have for years to come!

Digital My First Weather Station ($24.98) |
Budding meterologists will enjoy being able to read indoor and outdoor temperatures on this Digital My First Weather Station ($24.98) while the boy or girl figure on the screen dons appropriate attire as part of the weather predictions. Learning about the weather and being able to predict patterns is a great scientific skill that can help your child become a global climate change expert!

Break Open Real Geodes Science Kit ($29.98) |
Be a geologist and study rocks. Break Open Real Geodes Science Kit ($29.98) reveals crystal that take millions of years to develop upon being cracked open, Fluorescent Rock Science Kit ($39.98) literally allows kids to see rocks in a new light, or specialize in paleontology with the Explore Real Fossils Science Kit ($29.98). With fossils from places like Madagascar and Morocco, make sure you have a globe handy or at least a really good map to show kids where the specimens came from!

Interactive Lava Volcano ($39.98) |
Since volcanoes helped form islands around the world, show kids how an erupting volcano created the Hawaiian islands with this Interactive Lava Volcano ($39.98). Lava beads erupt underwater just as they do beneath the surface of the ocean to form an island and as a bonus, it can function as a night light!

GeoSafari Sea-Scope ($29.98) |
Study bodies of water and what lies beneath with the Educational Insights GeoSafari Sea-Scope ($29.98). This telescope-like device allows children to magnify objects under or above water while a temperature strip and ruler can help them gather scientific data about their findings. The attachable AquaLight is a nice feature to use to spy on underwater creatures who live in the mucky depths or to get a view of creatures underwater at night.

What a great gift guide!! All of your gift guides are incredible, and this one is just awesome!!
I think I need that First Weather Station! I feel like I always get my coat/hat/gloves needs wrong! That wasn’t a problem when I had a 50 foot walk from the parking lot to my building but now my commute entails stating a Metro platforms and walking 5 blocks to the office!
