One of the reasons I love to travel is to sample local fare. One year when my college classes ended, I road tripped it from Massachusetts home to California and made a point to sample the best of what area had to offer. I’m a big believer that food is always best when it’s local whether it’s barbecue in Austin, just grilled fish on a stick on the beaches of Puerto Vallarta, or fresh from the field berries in Watsonville, California.
If you’re a fan of Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern and haven’t yet checked out his Appetite for Life series, it’s a great show for those who love food and enjoy road trips. The videos showcase Andrew’s road trip around the country as he samples the best food America has to offer, listens to their stories, and lends a hand to those in need by doing charitable work to benefit the communities he visits including collecting money and canned goods at a University of Georgia tailgate, lending a hand at a Meals on Wheels in Atlanta, and restocking shelves of a food bank in Chattanooga following the 2011 tornados.
