PBS Cat in the Hat-a-Thon Celebrates Dr. Seuss’ Birthday on March 2 (w. giveaway)

February 28, 2012 By Leticia

“Be More PBS” encourages a closer look at the content that PBS offers through one of the latest ad campaigns but is that possible in our house?  Looking back, PBS has always been a part of my life beginning in childhood, following me throughout my career as a teacher, and now as a parent.

As a kid, I always woke up early on Sunday mornings to watch 3 hours of back to back Sesame Street episodes on our local PBS affiliate.  As a teacher, I taught PBS TeacherLine online professional development courses for educators, worked as the Community Manager for PBS Teachers in a role that connected me to the education division as I managed an online community that grew from 9,000 to 85,000 members.  As a parent, blogger, and social media enthusiast, I’m excited to join the PBS KIDS VIP program.

I’ve always been a fan of PBS because of the quality educational products that they consistently produce. From age appropriate programming for kids presented through likeable characters that children want to learn from, interactive age appropriate web content, engaging apps, fabulous free resources for teachers, video content for home and classrooms alike, and now books, games, and plus characters that correspond with shows, PBS is even more of a part of our lives now than when I was a child.

We’re celebrating my new involvement with PBS along with Dr. Seuss’ birthday during The Cat in the Hat-a-Thon. The Cat in the Hat-a-Thon includes a marathon of episodes and free content on web and mobile platforms all in honor of Cat in the Hat creator, Dr. Seuss!

Over the weekend we took a sneak peek at the 4 brand new episodes that young viewers are eagerly anticipating. In “Seasons— Spring and Summer/Fall and Winter” the Cat, Nick, and Sally on a journey through the four seasons.  “When I Grow Up/Doing it Differently” shows Nick and Sally trying different ways to solve problems as they grow up, something that we’re always working on in our home!
The celebration will continue online and on mobile platforms.  Video clips from all four episodes will be available for free online at PBSKIDS.org/video and on the PBS KIDS Video App for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.

On Thursday, March 1, the PBS KIDS Shop is launching a Birthday Party Builder Tool to make character themed party planning easy. Parents can shop by character for tableware, party banners, clothing, gifts, and more for the young fans in their homes.  The Party Builder offers customized recommendations based on the number of guests and exclusive, personalized products featuring your child’s favorite characters, including the Cat in the Hat.  Get 10% off on The Cat in the Hat items with the code CELEBRATE.

GIVEAWAY: To celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday and the upcoming Cat in the Hat-a-Thon, PBS is offering a prize pack with a fabulous assortment of Cat themed products including a $25 gift card to the PBS KIDS Shop and book and DVD from the series.
TO ENTER: Leave a comment sharing your favorite Dr. Seuss book along with your email address or Twitter handle before Friday, March 9.
For additional entries, complete the required entry above and include your email address or Twitter handle when doing any of the following:

I am part of the PBS KIDS VIP program and received The Cat in the Hat-a-Thon screener and a collection of items for review purposes.  No compensation was received for my involvement in the program or for writing this post but all opinions are my own. Images courtesy of PBS.

Today we’re celebrating National Rescue Dog Day Today we’re celebrating National Rescue Dog Day because we’re so glad Goldie and Murphy are part of our family! 🐶 We gave Goldie her forever home when she was 6 months old. She had been given up by her original family because she was just too much for them. She was an enthusiastic pup who loved to jump straight up in the air when she got excited and she used to hop the fence in the mornings to go visit her best dog friend, Katy, over our back fence. She still jumps from standing when she sees a deer, meets a favorite dog friend, or gets a visit from @lisatasch but now at age 5, she’s more calm and forever faithful. 🦮We met Murphy and his 9 brothers and sisters just days after he was born although we didn’t know he would be the puppy we’d claim as ours. Murphy has that puppy energy but in his quiet moments is a total love bug. He hogs the free space in our king bed (he even has his own pillow!) and loves nothing more than to press his body into me or lie directly on me. 🐾 Goldie and Murphy came to us through @labrescuelrcp and we couldn’t be happier that they’re part of our family! ❤️ #rescuedogday #labrescue #labrador #adoptdontshop

I am so looking forward to running in Memphis again this December! 🎉 If you’ve ever thought of running a race that does so much good in the world, join me!
