HP ENVY 23 TouchSmart AiO Review with Video & Giveaway #HPFamilyTime

December 16, 2012 By Leticia

HP ENVY 23 TouchSmart AIO front 5 years ago when I started blogging, our family’s computer needs were different than they are today. One of the first posts I ever wrote, Computer Time Versus Play Time, discussed my concerns that a centrally located family computer would draw our then preschool-age daughter to it like moth to flame and threaten her imaginative play. In the post, I talked about putting the hand-me-down computer in a centrally located place, something that we never did until a couple weeks ago when we received a HP ENVY 23 TouchSmart AiO.

At ages 6 and 9, our kids are accustomed to technology because we started off with what I like to call technology on training wheels. They’ve had their separate but equal computers in our upstairs office for years now, allowing me to eavesdrop on their conversations, help troubleshoot, and provide guidance when necessary. We’ve talked about screen time limits and online safety issues. They’re pros at navigating websites. They make me proud when they rattle off our household computer rules even if they do so while rolling their eyes.

HP ENVY 23 TouchSmart AiO features Windows 8 for a visual user experience.

When the kids were younger, it was important to me to keep our living space free of too much technology. I wanted to model the kinds of technology behavior I expected from our children but I recognize our family needs are changing, making the HP ENVY 23 TouchSmart AiO a welcome addition to our home.

This large touch screen computer features Windows 8 and a visual interface that the kids have quickly mastered. Having put the HP ENVY 23 TouchSmart AiO in a common place in our home allows everyone to use it.

One of the things that we’re loving about having the HP ENVY 23 TouchSmart AiO right in our kitchen is the accessibility to Skype. No one needs to crowd around the webcam in my laptop to Skype with my parents who live across the country. The 23” screen makes it easy for us to see them (who often appear larger than life on the screen) and for them to see us.

Since the HP ENVY 23 TouchSmart AiO lives in the same place as our kitchen cordless phone, the kids will often pick up the phone and invite their grandparents to Skype. Little Miss Techie and I had a girls’ shopping trip recently and she returned so excited that she had to show her grandmother the things she found!

Take a look at how Little Miss Techie used our new HP ENVY 23 TouchSmart AiO to show her grandmother her recent fashion haul! What a great way to facilitate communication between generations across the miles!

I enjoyed watching the video of your daughter skyping with your mom. I enjoy your site. I check it often. A few years ago I bought the cordless phone system you reviewed. The hands free headset sold me. I work from home and use it at my desk all the time. That way when I am on calls on hold I can multi task and send emails at the same time. Works great.

First, FANTASTIC, thoughtful review; you obviously didn’t “call this in” and I always appreciate a blogger who cares enough to do their job well.

Our computer is years’ old, hobbling along on last let :/. To win one like this, with such diverse function and accessibly? A VERY merry Christmas to my husband and kids! It’s something we need but can’t quite justify since ours still works, even if barely.

    Thank you!!

We would put it in our basement family room to replace our old PC that is 7 years old and not up to speed. That is where our kids do their homework as this is the only workdesk for their reports or projects. They really deserve to have a new computer as the one downstairs doenst work and they have to do reports and take their media sticks/cards to school to finish during free time. My computer is basic without capability and is now our only computer unless hubby brings his work one home…not supposed to . I can’t imagine how to use this touchscreen but I know kids could teach me to try! I know how to check email and tweet pretty much, and search hobbies and medical info.

Today we’re celebrating National Rescue Dog Day Today we’re celebrating National Rescue Dog Day because we’re so glad Goldie and Murphy are part of our family! 🐶 We gave Goldie her forever home when she was 6 months old. She had been given up by her original family because she was just too much for them. She was an enthusiastic pup who loved to jump straight up in the air when she got excited and she used to hop the fence in the mornings to go visit her best dog friend, Katy, over our back fence. She still jumps from standing when she sees a deer, meets a favorite dog friend, or gets a visit from @lisatasch but now at age 5, she’s more calm and forever faithful. 🦮We met Murphy and his 9 brothers and sisters just days after he was born although we didn’t know he would be the puppy we’d claim as ours. Murphy has that puppy energy but in his quiet moments is a total love bug. He hogs the free space in our king bed (he even has his own pillow!) and loves nothing more than to press his body into me or lie directly on me. 🐾 Goldie and Murphy came to us through @labrescuelrcp and we couldn’t be happier that they’re part of our family! ❤️ #rescuedogday #labrescue #labrador #adoptdontshop
After 3 days at St. Jude Children’s Research Hos After 3 days at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, I’m leaving Memphis so very grateful to be able to support St. Jude’s mission of working to end childhood cancer. ❤️ Spending time connecting, brainstorming, and absorbing the wisdom of fellow Hero Ambassadors from around the country was inspiring because the work we do fundraising through our endurance events helps St. Jude do the incredible work they do to ensure families never receive a bill for their child’s treatment, housing, travel, or food and continue important research that will continue to reduce rates of pediatric cancer and other childhood diseases. I am so looking forward to running in Memphis again this December! 🎉 If you’ve ever thought of running a race that does so much good in the world, join me! I’d love to have you come to Memphis and run with me! Or you can always donate through the fundraising link in my bio. ❤️ #stjude #stjudeheroes #memphis #stjudedmv

As a teacher and parent, I am well aware of the me As a teacher and parent, I am well aware of the mental health challenges our youth face and am really pleased to share that over the weekend I became certified in Youth Mental Health First Aid through the National Council for Mental Wellbeing! 🎉 I’ve always worked to build relationships with the young people in my life- whether my kids’ friends or students- and this certification has made me more mindful of the signs and symptoms of mental health challenges so I can have important and supportive conversations when symptoms first start to appear. 🗣️A big component of the training also included developing a self-care plan which is critical when supporting others. 💕 I’m so grateful to have taken this certification for free through the University of Maryland whose blended learning format (2 hours of self paced online work + 5 hour instructor led class over Zoom) was fantastic! 💻 The teacher in me really applauds the course design and I’m glad to join the 3 million+ in the U.S. certified in Youth Mental Health First Aid. 🏥 If this is something you’re interested in doing, University of Maryland has free courses on Saturdays or Sundays from 10-4pm between June-October. Swipe ⬅️ for more information, including a QR code with more information and a survey to take as part of the sign up process. And if you have any questions- leave a comment or DM me. I’m happy to help you get certified too! ❤️ #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthfirstaid #youthmentalhealth #mentalhealthawarenessmonth
