Think about all the many electronic devices in your life. Imagine you’re on a white water rafting adventure and have your devices with you when suddenly you encounter a waterfall and can save only one of the items you’ve brought. What one item could you not live without? Which device would you stuff into a dry bag before going over the falls and why?
A couple of years ago this same question was posed to me when I was attending the Family Online Safety Institute’s Annual Conference to demonstrate how hard it is for us to conceive about being disconnected or losing our favorite digital device. While most people hated to lose their smartphones, I said I’d save my external hard drive with my data backup.
Disclosure: This post is sponsored by CrashPlan who compensated me for my time in writing this post and hosting a giveaway.
Why my backup drive over everything else? If I’ve properly backed up my data on my phone, tablets, and computers on an external hard drive, through the cloud, or via software from CrashPlan, I never have to worry about losing documents, photos, or videos since they can be restored on a new device. While devices can be replaced, it’s usually impossible to fully restore the information that was originally on it.
Since there are so many things in life to worry about, CrashPlan encourages users to live a worry free digital life by securing timeless and irreplaceable family photos, videos, music, documents, and more with their easy to upload CrashPlan software. So many times we don’t think about our data not being backed up until right before the computer is about to crash and the blue screen of death shows up. CrashPlan makes it so easy to be proactive about your backups that you don’t even need to be tech savvy. The software will virtually back up your files across your many devices so you can remain on the go and focus on the things that matter.
Since I’m a little bit of a backup nut, and have multiple backups running at any given time, I also appreciate that I can continue to have these backups run with CrashPlan. I can back up to my external hard drive, cloud system, and CrashPlan for added security. If you aren’t currently backing up, start a multi-destination system by backing up via the CrashPlan cloud, an external CrashPlan hard drive, or even securely to a friend’s hard drive or computer for maximum protection.
CrashPlan also allows you to customize your backup plan to suit your family’s needs. They will help you determine the most important information to regularly backup on the fly and keep everything secure while coordinating and managing your data. In the event that anything happens to your devices, CrashPlan makes it easy to live a worry free digital life through easy to restore options available via the web and the company’s guarantee.
