The first time I saw Rio in the theaters, I was blown away at the visual accuracy of the movie’s black and white sidewalk mosaics in Copacabana and Ipenema, Sugarloaf Mountain’s cable cars, and the Corcovado that towers above the city. The movie transported me back to an era before we had children thanks to stunning scenery that was a feast for the eyes and has been a personal favorite since it came out in 2011.
On Friday, April 11, Rio 2 hits theaters and it promises to be as much as a visual treat that will instantly take you from the big city of Rio de Janiero to the Amazon jungle. Brazilian director Carlos Saldanha created Rio to be a love letter to his hometown of Rio and it truly is. The carnival scenes, hillside favelas, incredible creatures, and vibrant jungle foliage in Rio 2 will inspire you to visit this incredible country south of the equator.
While Rio 2 provides plenty of eye candy for those suffering from wanderlust, Pinterest Place Boards serve as another source of travel inspiration. According to Pinterest:
“Place Pins were designed to combine the beautiful imagery of a travel magazine with the utility of a map online so you can share it with friends. You can access them from anywhere on your Android device or iPhone, too, which means you can find new places on the go and even get directions!”
With Pinterest being such a useful tool to travel, here are some of my favorite Rio themed Place Boards that I’m using to plan a return trip to explore Rio as a family.

I was a guest of Fox for the world premiere event of Rio 2 but my love of the city is based on a personally funded trip long ago. Images courtesy of 20th Century Fox and Pinterest.
I would so love to go to Rio someday!!!
