As a former teacher and current parent of two elementary aged children, I make it a priority to support classroom teachers in a number of different ways. It doesn’t take a lot of time or money to show our kids’ teachers that we care but a little effort goes a long way to ensure success of all students. A recent Staples survey revealed that 75% of parents of teen students believe a lack of school supplies is a significant challenge for schools today. Most teachers spend an average of $408.71 of their own money each year to provide supplies and materials for their classrooms.
This year Staples and Katy Perry have teamed up to celebrate and support teachers with the “Make Roar Happen” campaign that supports getting teachers the supplies they need for their students to succeed. As part of the campaign, Staples is generously donating $1 million to DonorsChoose.org, a charity that has helped fund more than 450,000 classroom projects for teachers and impacted more than 11 million students. Staples’ customers are invited to ‘Make Roar Happen’ and help their local teachers by donating $1 to DonorsChoose.org at their local Staples store or online atwww.staples.com/makeroarhappen. Donations will be used to fund classroom projects in the community where the donation was made.
This Wednesday, August 27 I’m joining Social Moms and Staples to co-host a special back to school twitter party. We’ll be discussing the #MakeRoarHappen campaign and ways to support teachers during back to school. And of course there will be great prizes!
