This week I’m joining four other bloggers who are rallying together by sharing charitable posts (as in we’re not being compensated) in support of a “Mini But Mighty” Hero – a child who has survived or is battling cancer to help spread the word about Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), an organization that is working to eradicate childhood cancer.
Our Mighty Hero of the week is Jacob from Blue Spring, Missouri. Jacob was diagnosed in May of 1998 with stave IV neuroblastoma.
Today, Jacob is healthy due to excellent medical care, the prayers and support of so many people, and the research and care of the neuroblastoma team of doctors at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. As of September 2013, Jacob has been in remission for 14 years.
Why am I sharing this with you?
One in 330 children will be diagnosed with cancer by the time they turn 20 and despite this statistic, less than 5% of the federal government’s total funding for cancer research is dedicated to childhood cancers each year. Funds raised by Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for childhood cancer research projects from organizations supports cutting-edge medical research as well as nursing grants to improve the quality of life and care of children with cancer.

Shop at stores and support efforts that benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation
Being a conscious shopper and shopping at businesses that give back demonstrates that you care where your dollars go. Since 2001, Auntie Anne’s (yes, the pretzel company!) has partnered with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) to help fight childhood cancer! The initial partnership was kicked off with a $25,000 donation to Alex’s parents, Liz and Jay Scott. Since then, Auntie Anne’s has encouraged franchise owners to get involved by donating and to date, $1,225,228 has been raised by Auntie Anne’s stores.
There are other ways to support efforts that benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. Like the Mother & Daughter Run to Fight Childhood Cancer that my friend, Sandie, and her daughter are training for together as they run a 10K together to celebrate her daughter’s 10th birthday. I love that they’re training together in honor of doing a run for charity! Sandie and her daughter are nearly halfway towards their fundraising goal but I’d love it if you can take a look at their fundraising page and help if you can!
No compensation was received for this post but Auntie Anne’s is donating $50, which funds one hour of cancer research, to ALSF in my name. Information and some images courtesy of AlexsLemonade.org
I love this.
