Thanks, Whirlpool, for sponsoring my CES series. Check out the special CES section of their website to see what they’re planning for the kitchen of the future.
What if you could do a #DeedADay by donating to charity each time you did a load of laundry? This is the idea behind the Whirlpool® Connect to care™ program. In just four easy steps, families can set up an automatic donation to be made to Habitat for Humanity each time they put a load of laundry in their Smart Top Load Washer and Dryer. This creative way of allowing families to give charitably through laundry is a first-of-it’s kind idea that made Whirlpool the recipient of a coveted CES Innovation Award.
How Connect to care™ Works
In just four easy steps, families with the Whirlpool® Smart Top Load Washer and Dryer can start charitable giving through laundry.
1. Install the app.
2. Designate an amount to give. Preset amounts of $01.0, $0.25, and $0.50 cents per load can be selected or you can set your own donation amount.
3. Add payment by entering in your credit card information.
4. Watch the amount add up. It’s inspiring to see the total amount donated by all Smart Top Load Washer and Dryer owners while also being able to keep track of how much you’ve donated during the month and overall donations to Habitat for Humanity.
Why Connect to care™ Matters
As someone committed to doing anonymous good deeds through the #DeedADay movement, I love that such a simple act as laundry has an incredible potential to impact the lives of others. Think about it. The impact is astounding!
Say you give just $.10 cents per load of laundry you put in the washer and dryer. That means a donation of $0.20 is given for each load.
How many loads of laundry do you do in a week?
I know that there are weeks that I do just two loads of laundry but times when I may do five! If I donated $0.20 per load of laundry and I did 5 loads of laundry a week, I could be giving a dollar a week to Habitat for Humanity.
Add up the number of weeks in a year and little by little, that dollar that’s being given each week turns into $365.
Add that to the amount that others with the Whirlpool® Smart Top Load Washer and Dryer are giving and collectively, it’s amazing to think about how much of a difference we could all make in the lives of others when donating through our laundry.
Teaching Kids to Give through Connect to care™
I have an eight year old who loves to do the laundry. He’s all about pushing the buttons and adjusting the dial to ensure that we’re using the best wash and dry cycle for our clothes. I can teach my son about charitable giving by involving him, and the rest of the family, in decisions about how much to give and then letting them see how much we’ve donated to Habitat for Humanity in a week and throughout the year.
The interface of the Connect to care™ is beautify and easy to use. It serves as a delightful teaching tool when raising the next generation of kids who care. This shows that the simple act of doing laundry is a way of caring for our own families but also a way to care for others. It also helps model family giving that ensures that charity towards others is something that your kids won’t think twice about in the future.
Why Habitat for Humanity
Whirlpool is one of Habitat for Humanity’s largest corporate partners. For the past 15 years, Whirlpool has 15 donated a refrigerator and range to every new Habitat for Humanity home built in North America.

Did you notice anywhere info on how much of the amount is explicitly given over to charitable use and how much is subtracted for administration costs of this process? Just asking as there have been some great charitable efforts and then there have been some great marketing strategies.
What an interesting idea! I love when companies think outside the box to come up with new programs. I probably do about 7 loads of laundry of week so it could really add up if I had this washer.
What a fantastic concept! I’d be afraid to see how much we donate through the app over here. Three boys-need I say more?
This is interesting! I love the idea of giving, but I’d want to see more about percentages actually given. It might motivate me to want to do laundry more though!
Super great idea by Whirlpool! – I love that they play a big role in helping out Habitat for Humanity! We do a lot of laundry in this house! I could donate bundles if I had their washer!
