Do you ever sit in traffic thinking about all the things you could be doing if you were at home instead of bumper to bumper with other cars on a clogged road? Having enjoyed the work at home lifestyle for many years, I’ve been spoiled by not having a daily commute but when I do need to leave the house and encounter traffic, I’d rather be doing anything else.
The time I spend sitting in traffic is maddening because it’s a precious commodity that can’t be bought. In order to be most efficient, I tend to search out the most efficient route possible before I get on the road. This helps me skirt around traffic and minimizes my time on the road to get me to and from my destination faster.
Using the TomTom GO 500/600 with MyDrive Technology
Using my smartphone with the TomTom app, I can map my route with TomTom MyDrive technology that provides real time traffic between my house and destination.

TomTom’s new MyDrive is a cloud-based tool that lets you plan your route before you leave the house. If there’s excessive traffic or a road block, it helps me adjust my schedule to allot enough travel time for heavier traffic. I can also tell if traffic is lighter, allowing me to spend some additional time at home with my family or sending out a few more work emails before I have to leave.
One advantage of using MyDrive is the ability to send my route directly to my GO device that will display driving directions through the GPS unit on my dashboard. This allows me to just jump in the car and hit the road without having to stop and log in directions, ensuring I get to my destination faster and safer. With the help of MyDrive, I’m able to keep my eyes on the road, instead of tinkering with my mobile device, trying to find the many alternate routes that would get me out of the traffic.

I can also use the web-based TomTom real time traffic portal to give me a peek at what the roads look like as I anticipate getting on the road.

I would spend the extra time interacting with my children.
I would be able to spend more time with my family or getting more work done!
I would be able to allow my baby to spend less time in the car and more in life!
Once during thanksgiving we were stuck due to traffic for 2 hours on the highway just inching every few minutes!
I would spend my extra time working in my yard.
I would spend my extra time visiting with my grand kids.
Extra time most always goes to the yard and garden. 🙂
I would call somebody I miss talking to!
we would be able to stop and explore instead of having to drive through all the traffic that would be pleasent
It would be awesome on vacation to get to your destination without seeing a bunch of orange barrels. You could definitely have more time on vacation.
We got stuck in Columbus at rush hour with summer construction and a wreck. We literally had a 6 extra hours added on to our travel time.
My worst traffic story: coming to a complete stop on the 18 mile Atchafalaya basin bridge between Lafayette and Baton Rouge due to a wreck and taking 5 hours to get to the other side. (I think that’s why some people keep fishing poles in their car!) 🙂
If the weather was nice, I would do some yard work with the time I save navigating traffic
I would sleep in longer!
I would probably spend more time on facebook
I would have more time to relax!
I would spend my extra time shopping, eating at a restaurant, enjoying more family time or enjoying more time at the parks.
My worst traffic nightmare happened last winter, I was in Boston two days after a snowstorm, when the city decided it would clear the sidewalks for the Patriots Super Bowl Parade. What normally takes 90 minutes to 2 hours on a bad day, took me over 8 hours to drive 60 miles. Traffic was totally gridlocked, 3 miles from our destination took 6 hours to reach
Not sure if I would have extra time. It just might actually help me to be on time. lol
I would spend more time with my kids and watch a movie or read a book.
I would spend more time playing outside with my kids.
I would have more time to spend with my son.
I would spend more time outside with my dog.
worst traffic story: It tooks us almost 6 hours to get from Milwaukee to Chicago for a concert — we walked in at the 3rd song.. that was the worst.
I would spend my extra time at home and leave later 🙂 Lots to do at home – cleaning, activities with the kiddos, etc. Would love this! Our navi is so outdated :/
Extra time on my diy projects
I would spend the extra time going to the gym to work out.
My worst traffic story was getting caught up in construction driving through Indianapolis. It took us 2 hours to get past the construction.
I sped all my extra time with my little girl!
worst traffic nightmare very close to place and an accident happens
I’d have more time to sightsee and eat great food!
One road trip a couple years ago, my family was stuck in horrendous traffic around Chicago. In the over 2 hours that we were stuck, I had each kid pee in a water bottle, the potty trained 2 year old pooped in a grocery bag and then he threw up from motion sickness. It was AWFUL!!!! Stand-still traffic with no exits is a nightmare.
I would spend more time with my hubby.
One time I was stuck in traffic for about 3 hours, the ac wasn’t working and it was dead in the summer. It was horrific.
I was stuck on a floating bridge for 4 hours after an accident and traffic was backed up for miles.
I would spend more time relaxing and spending time with my family!
I would spend it reading or watching movies with my kids
Last week driving to the drs took an hour instead of 20 minutes because there was so much traffic.
I would spend it playing with my babies 🙂
I would spend more time doing family activities.
