How much do you think about your skin? Have you ever considered that your environment can have an impact on the aging process?
In the 3rd Annual Wrinkle Ranking by RoC® Skincare and Sperling’s Best Places looked into the future and predicted the 50 most wrinkle-prone American cities in 2040. Using factors such as lifestyle, occupational and environmental influences that commonly affect skin health, cities were ranked based on risk for skin damage and premature aging.
Results found Philadelphia will be the most wrinkle-prone city in America by 2040 due to high stress levels, more airborne pollution, lengthy commute times and higher than average smoking rates. Large metropolitan areas such as Philadelphia, Washington D.C. and New York City will continue to round out the top 10 most wrinkle-prone metro areas due to their extreme urban environments, including more congested commuting and lower air quality.
The least wrinkle-prone city? San Jose, California near Silicon Valley. Factors like a commute time, smaller population size and anticipated shift toward a wetter climate help it claim the title of least wrinkle-prone city in the United States.
In addition to ranking the cities, the study also found that skin damage can be caused by our love and constant use of technology. Here are three more interesting findings from the Wrinkle Ranking results.
Social networks are contributing to the aging process
The San Francisco Bay Area may be known as leading the way in developing innovative technology that we can’t live without but the Wrinkle Ranking reveals it’s at the forefront of screen staring AND social network addiction. Staring at our electronic devices, specifically those which we hold in our hands and awkwardly place our head and neck, are unfavorable in the aging department.
Binge watching could be leading to wrinkles
Washington, DC residents are currently #1 in binge watching streaming television. Binge watching often results in decreased blink rate, drier eyes, and a higher possibility of wrinkling and irritation. For those of us who live in the DC Metro Area, it’s time to unplug, throw on some SPF, and enjoy the great outdoors this fall before winter hits!
Seattle’s friendliness may be premature wrinkles
Residents of Seattle currently claim the #1 spot of most time spent on Facebook! As much as they may enjoy “liking,” the uncomfortable angle of news feed scrolling on mobile devices can be a contributor for premature wrinkles.
