Happy Star Wars Day! Every year on May 4th fans celebrate their love of the films and if today snuck up on you, don’t worry! There is still plenty of time for you to show your allegiance to the Rebel Alliance or the Galactic Empire before the day is done and here’s how.
Dig that Star Wars shirt out and put it on right now
Whether it’s a vintage throwback to the Star Wars films of your youth, one that shows your love of the newer movies, or one that is a nod to the current political situation, it doesn’t matter if that t-shirt has been hanging in your closet unworn for months or is a little wrinkled when you pull it out of your drawer because fellow fans won’t judge as they acknowledge your awesome Star Wars apparel with a casual head nod, smile, fist bump, or high five.
Brush up on your Star Wars knowledge
USA Today has 13 very basic ‘Star Wars’ things to know if you’ve never seen the movie and the video above sums up Skywalker family history in 3 minutes.
Ask Alexa
Every morning Thomas wakes up and says good morning to Alexa, our Amazon Alexa. She dutifully tells him the date and an interesting factoid about the day before he asks her about the weather but this morning he decided to have a little fun with her. He asked her a bunch of Star Wars-related questions, including trying to get her to reveal whether she was loyal to the Rebel Alliance or Galactic Empire. We figured as a good droid, she’d be with the Rebels but she refused to tell us!
Maybe you can get her to share but if you can’t, Amazon has hidden some Easter Eggs for Alexa users and Star Wars enthusiasts to find. Try asking her:
- Alexa, May the Force be with you.
- Alexa, These aren’t the droids you’re looking for.
- Alexa, Come to the dark side.
- Alexa, I am your father.
- Alexa, Can you talk like Yoda?
- Alexa, Tell me a Star Wars joke.
Think of your own Star Wars related questions while you’re at it, ask her to play Star Wars in 90 seconds for a Cliff Notes acapella version of the entire history of Star Wars!
Watch the movies in chronological order on TBS starting NOW
Star Wars early birds on the East Coast are probably already well into Attack of the Clones because to commemorate Star Wars Day, TBS started showing every “Star Wars” movie in chronological order at 6:40 a.m. (ET/PT) with “Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace,” all the way through an 8:15 p.m. telecast of “Star Wars: Episode VI — Return of the Jedi.” The marathon will be presented with limited commercial interruption for those who want to
Stream your family’s favorite Star Wars movie during an impromptu movie night
Movie night on a school night? In honor of the day and it almost being Friday, have dinner in front of the TV and watch your favorite movie. According to Amazon Video, over the past year viewers have streamed over 7 million hours of Star Wars!
Plan a trip to Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios
If you haven’t been to Orlando in awhile, now is the time to start thinking about a trip to Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios for your family of fans. Geek out at Star Wars Galaxy at Hollywood Studios with the Star Tours ride, Galactic Spectacular that makes favorite moments from the film come alive, the live A Galaxy Far, Far Away show that brings scenes and moments to life thanks to characters you know and love (or maybe don’t love so much!), and get some hints about what’s coming next in the Star Wars saga thanks to the Star Wars: Path of the Jedi film.
The Launch Bay is THE place to celebrate the stories of Star Wars thanks to the great exhibits featuring movie memorabilia, the behind the scenes film celebrating the movies, and the chance to interact with characters. Keep an eye out for Stoomtroopers who aren’t photo friendly but have some fun posing with Chewbacca or Kylo Ren once you’re inside. Also be sure to keep an eye on the hooded Jawas, scavengers who are always ready to trade you for your shiny items!
Happy Star Wars Day! May the Fourth be with you!
