If you’ve ever asked to recall your kids’ immunization records, find an obscure work document that you know you once had but is either buried on your desk or was recycled, or wished you had a good system for decluttering endless papers but could still archive them for the future, the new free Adobe Scan app is a lifesaver for busy working parents.
Just this week Adobe announced their new free Adobe Scan app. Adobe Scan allows me to capture physical documents using my phone’s camera, crop and adjust the scan, and transform them into searchable PDFs in seconds that can be accessed anywhere at any time through . Easy to learn and available for iOS and Android devices, this app helps busy parents maximize their productivity and be more efficient so we can spend more time doing the things we love.
I made this video to show you how easy it is to turn paper documents into digital searchable PDFs.
Once I got started with Adobe Scan, I started to think of all the other ways I could use it to lead a more paperless lifestyle. Here are some practical ways of using Adobe Scan for work and family life.
8 Ways Adobe Scan Can Help Busy Working Parents
Home and Family Life
Keep family medical records at your fingertips– How many times have you been asked for dates of your child’s last immunizations but couldn’t recall? Snap a photo of their last immunization record, type the search term into Adobe Document Scan and it will locate it for you!
Digital recipe book for personal and family recipes— Scan your favorites and share them to Adobe Document Cloud to create shared family cookbook of favorites that will be treasured for generations to come. In my video, I scanned a printed recipe for rhubarb upside down cake and turned it into a digital document that was transformed into a searchable PDF. When rhubarb season comes around next year, I can open my Adobe Cloud account, search for rhubarb, and the recipe will appear on my phone, desktop computer, or other device where Adobe Document Cloud is installed. This makes it easy for me to access the recipe at home and on any device, or even on the go when visiting friends.
Create a digital art gallery for your children— If you’re inundated with art work coming home throughout the year, preserve it for all eternity. Simply write your child’s name on the front with the date and snap a photo to be able to search by your child’s name or date in Adobe Document Cloud.
Turn waivers into digital copies that can be signed and sent directly from your mobile device. Start by scanning a waiver or permission slip with Adobe Scan then use Adobe Acrobat Reader to open electronic documents and find key words, add comments, sign, or send PDFs for review. Then use Adobe Sign to add your signature before attaching the PDF to an email and quickly sending to the recipient.
Work Life
Snap photos of slides from conference presentations or handouts— Great learning occurs at meetings and conferences and sometimes there are key pieces of information you need from slides. Tap Adobe Scan and take a photo so you can do a keyword search when you’re trying to remember that statistic you learned in that session long ago.
Archive receipts from work trips to make it easier to complete expense reports. No one loves the tedious nature of doing expense reports but they’re an essential part of work life so you can recoup money spent. Enter a date for your receipt and Adobe Document Cloud will locate it among your digital files so you can file those expense reports faster and cross them off of your work to-do list.
Turn business cards into searchable documents— You could spend time entering in contact information for new business contacts into your address book or finding individuals on LinkedIn but why not just jot some notes on the business card you were given and capture it with Adobe Scan? It will be a lot easier to find the person later and you can rid your desk of piles of business cards.
Turn 3D models into 2D searchable images— 3D models take up a lot of room and if you can get away with creating a digital file, a photo can be just as useful without taking up as much room when captured with Adobe Scan. It’s also far easier to share an image of a 3D model than the real thing!
These are just some of the ways you can use Adobe Scan to digitize your life. Do you have other ideas? I’d love to hear them as you get started with this free app for iOS and Android devices!
