Imagine making music with ordinary objects. The stars of STOMP are not only the performers but also matchboxes, wooden poles, brooms, garbage cans, Zippo lighters, and hubcaps who become percussion perfection when tapped, clicked open, beat on, and banged together.
If the above clip intrigues you, you’ll want to get tickets to STOMP when it comes to The National Theatre from April 23 – 28. This explosive, provocative, sophisticated, utterly unique and appeals to audiences of all ages thanks to an eight-member troupe who uses everything but conventional percussion instruments to fill the stage with magnificent rhythms. Love STOMP or hoping to see it when it comes to town? Keep reading for your chance to win a pair of tickets to the opening night performance!
I remember the first time I saw STOMP. This performance came highly recommended by my roommate in Boston way back when I was a graduate student in search of something fun to do with my then boyfriend, now husband, who was visiting for the weekend. At the time she recommended it, we couldn’t go to YouTube to pull up a clip. She simply assured me we’d love it and we did. We loved it so much that we saw it again a couple years later when we moved to Washington, D.C., have taken our kids, and plan to go again later this month.
Even if you’re STOMP veterans like we are, the show promises new surprises, including updated parts of the show. I’ve heard that restructured segments use props like tractor tire inner tubes and paint cans! As USA Today says, “STOMP finds beautiful noises in the strangest places.”
Run time of STOMP is approximately 95 minutes with no intermission. Children under the age of four are not permitted to attend the show.
