At last, the breathtaking, action-packed finale of the #1 bestselling The Trials of Apollo series is coming. We all want to know if Greek god Apollo, cast down to earth in the pathetic mortal form of a teenager named Lester Papadopoulos, will finally regain his place on Mount Olympus.
If you’re not familiar with The Trials of Apollo- don’t worry! It’s not too late for your child to get into this series or to pick up where they left off. So as to not spoil the series, this post is spoiler-free!
Author Rick Riordan’s series is about an arrogant god turned hapless human- Apollo. Our protagonist’s task is to restore five ancient Oracles. Along the way he has to battle a triumvirate of evil Roman emperors to regain his place in Mount Olympus.
The problem? He’s a mortal sixteen-year-old trying to earn his way back into Zeus’s favor who has to manage without his godly powers.
The series is narrated by Apollo which provides comedy because of the great disparity between his godly assumptions and his disappointing reality. Fans familiar with The Percy Jackson and the Olympians series will delight in the fact that beloved diverse characters from Camp Half-Blood will be on-hand to witness whether Apollo earns back his place in Mt. Olympus.

Make Your Own Camp Half-Blood Necklace
Worn by Apollo, Percy Jackson, and others, the camp necklace is given to each Camp Half-Blood camper at the end of each summer. Head counselors vote on the biggest event of the summer which is painted on a bead. Campers add their beads to their necklaces.
For example, Percy Jackson’s necklace features a black bead with a turquoise trident. This bead represents a son of Poseidon going into the darkness of the Underworld, and making it out alive.
To make your own DIY Camp Half Blood necklace, follow this Camp Half-Blood Necklace tutorial from Instructables. The hardest part of making your necklace will be choosing major events from The Trials of Apollo series, the year 2020, or a combination of both!

Make a Prophecy
There is no shortage of prophecies in The Trials of Apollo books so why not make your own! Different from a prediction which is often based on logic, a prophecy is a declaration of what’s to come. Prophecies are inspired by the divine so why not take on the role of a prophet and make a prophecy about the end of the series or how 2020 will end! Tuck away your prophecy and have fun reading it when you finish The Tower of Nero or as we await the arrival of 2021.
Host a Campfire Reading of Apollo’s Haikus
Did you know that the Trials of Apollo chapters are written in haiku? As you flip back through the books, you’ll notice these Japanese poems of seventeen syllables adorning the pages of the book.
Written in three lines of five, seven, and five, Apollo’s haiku’s may not be the best but they’re sure fun to read! Gather the family for an evening of DIY Camp Half Blood and take turns reading Apollo’s haikus around your backyard fire pit or around a campfire. Apollo’s haikus may not evoke images of the natural world as haikus typically do but at least they’ll provide some summer entertainment.

Another fun and creative story from Rick Riordan! Great!
“Leave a comment about who your favorite Greek or Roman god or goddess is and why” Hmm. I’ll say Minerva / Athena, because she’s so wise and has an excellent sense of style!
“Leave a comment sharing a favorite series that your tween read recently” We love the “Prosper Redding” books by Alexandra Bracken!
Hermes is my favorite! He is a colorful character and the messenger god, so he interacts with all the other gods AND with humans.
thanks for sharing
I would pick Artemis or Diana because she was the goddess of the hunt, protector of women in childbirth, and loved animals.
I like Aphrodite because she is the Goddess of Love and Beauty and these are positive things.
Zeus because he’s the king of all gods.
Athena because smart
