The Great Scholastic Book Giveaway!

April 27, 2008 By Leticia

UPDATE:  While I am publishing most comments, please read the criteria for this contest carefully since only comments meeting contest criteria will be eligible to win.  The winner’s name will be posted here on Saturday and must contact me within 48 hours to claim the collection of books.  Otherwise, another eligible reader will be eligible to win.

From this blog, it probably appears that Little Miss Techie and Captain Computer spend all their time on the computer. Believe me, we don’t. Most of our days are spent playing and reading books.

Perhaps it is because I used to teach first grade or maybe I’m just a library geek but I love books. I can’t go into a bookstore without buying something. When I used to teach, I could never resist adding to my classroom library through monthly book club fliers. I also love the library which we visit quite often.

Scholastic heard about my love of books and got in touch with me to offer Tech Savvy Mama readers the opportunity to win a collection of the most beautiful brand new Scholastic children’s titles and a Scholastic bookbag with a retail value over $100.00!

Books include:

  • Zen Ties (Jon Muth)- A beautifully illustrated book about compassion and friendship that reaffirms the importance of our ties to one another.
  • Good Night, Sleep Tight (Simon Ludvigsen Gaines)- The perfect bedtime book for toddlers and preschoolers that comes with a blanket that allows children to tuck each adorable animal into bed.
  • What Pet to Get? (Emma Dodd)- Jack’s mother says he can choose a pet . . . but what pet to get? An elephant? A polar bear? What about a Tyrannosaurus Rex? The last page reveals Jack’s final choice, and a big surprise!
  • I Lost My Kisses (Trudie Trewin)- Matilda Rose loves to kiss. But one day, something goes terribly, horribly wrong. She loses her kisses, just before her daddy is going to come home. Matilda goes on the hysterical and thoughtful search to find her kisses and learns that you can never really lose your kisses — they will always be there when you need them.
  • What’s the Weather?– With lift-the-flaps, pull-tabs, foil, and glitter, this is a wonderfully fun interactive book that explains what weather is and what causes it to change. Children can facts about where rain comes from, what snowflakes really are, and the truth about thunder and lightning!
  • Little Scholastic’s The Crawly Caterpillar– This first nature book with rhyming text and realistic textures lets your child touch & learn about the miracles of nature. Feel the caterpillar as it grows, turns into a chrysalis, and changes into a beautiful pop-up butterfly. Little Scholastic is a new line of books created by Scholastic and designed to give babies & toddlers a head start in learning.

To win this amazing collection of Scholastic’s new titles, post a comment telling me how you heard about Tech Savvy Mama and a suggestion for future site content.

For an additional chance to win, join my Lilaguide.com group, Tech Savvy Parents. Tech Savvy Parents is a place for moms and dads to share and discuss favorite websites, technology, and other computer issues relating to children using Lilaguide, a brand new online community just for parents. Click here to join Tech Savvy Parents and for another chance to win!

I’ll post the winner’s name on Tech Savvy Mama on Saturday, May 3. Good luck and be sure to check back to see if you won!

Thanks for reading and many thanks to Scholastic for providing such a fabulous giveaway!

The fine print:

  • Midnight EST Friday, May 2 is the deadline for posting all comments to Tech Savvy Mama and joining the Tech Savvy Parents lilagroup in order to be eligible for the drawing.

Great contest! I heard about the Tech Savvy Mama site through your insightful commentary on DC Urban Moms, advising a parent about technology issues. I’d love to see you review kid-focused peripherals, like mice and keyboards made especially for small hands. Also, I’d love your insight on digital storage of kids’ art and photos, and fun ideas for utilizing said art and photos into fun gifts/projects. Thx!

I heard about your blog from your post on DCUM. I don’t think I’ve seen you post about cybersafety as a blogging parent (e.g., to post pictures or not, etc.).

I love Scholastic books! I wish I was a teacher so I could order from their kids’ book clubs. I heard about your blog from Jessica of A Parent in SS.

As for future topics, do you know of any web resources (games, online storybooks, etc) to teach a second language for our kids (teeny to not so tiny). I’m specifically looking for Vietnamese but anything would be helpful.

I came across your blog randomly, but I love technology and am married to a computer geek. Our child is almost 1 and has her father’s inquisitive nature, so I’d like to be up to date on ways to tap into that (thus is why I’ve linked to you on my blog).

As for future topics, I’d have to say that I’d appreciate Mom-specific technology info (planners, etc). You may have already presented something similar, but I’m fairly new to your blog…a few weeks.

I was googling for ways to get “free childrens books” to help with a literacy outreach program when I ran across a mention of your contest on blogher.com, where I am a member.

My children are older, but these books would be put to excellent use, allowing a child who may not have ever owned a book to have one!

As far future post ideas, my homeschooled teenager has fits with foreign languarges – there has got to be something out there?

I heard about your site from Virginia DeBolt’s post on BlogHer today. My suggestion is that you check out the kids’ books by Alexander McCall Smith. He is my favorite adult author and I have found that his Akimbo series of detective stories about a boy (9 years old?) who’s father is a ranger in an African national park are suburb at giving a real world flavor to that part of the world. I think every kid who reads one of these books will secretly wish that he could be a kid like Akimbo.

My daughter spends more time than I like with her “DDD” player (dvd). I read to her and she likes that, but it’s hard to keep it interesting with only buying one new book every month or two. Even though my little girl’s just now getting into easy books, they’re something that never go out of style. I also have triplet cousins who are just a bit older, and are already ‘getting’ the big kid books (they’re 3 and a half!)

So, as for future giveaways, I really love the book idea – they’re essential in every household whether your kids are 6 or 36 (grandkids, neighborhood kids, or kids of friends love to read too!)

Thank you so much for such an awesome contest, and thanks too for letting me take part. Much love to you and yours, take care and God Bless.

I found your site from Prizey Blogs. My son loves me reading to him, he’s only 14 months old, he actually grabs a book and makes me read it twice, each time! Its too cute but at least he’s learning, and what better way than through books!

I think your doing a great job on your blog! We have bookmarked and are looking for an RSS feed!

I want to avoid screen time with her but yet want to take advantage of her curiousity about these objects! Please help!!

I would like to learn more about other technology, besides the computer itself, that you would recommend for toddlers and preschoolers. I noticed that Captain Computer has a Leapfrog Leappad…I would like to know more about those types of products and others out on the market. Thanks for asking for our input!

Today we’re celebrating National Rescue Dog Day Today we’re celebrating National Rescue Dog Day because we’re so glad Goldie and Murphy are part of our family! 🐶 We gave Goldie her forever home when she was 6 months old. She had been given up by her original family because she was just too much for them. She was an enthusiastic pup who loved to jump straight up in the air when she got excited and she used to hop the fence in the mornings to go visit her best dog friend, Katy, over our back fence. She still jumps from standing when she sees a deer, meets a favorite dog friend, or gets a visit from @lisatasch but now at age 5, she’s more calm and forever faithful. 🦮We met Murphy and his 9 brothers and sisters just days after he was born although we didn’t know he would be the puppy we’d claim as ours. Murphy has that puppy energy but in his quiet moments is a total love bug. He hogs the free space in our king bed (he even has his own pillow!) and loves nothing more than to press his body into me or lie directly on me. 🐾 Goldie and Murphy came to us through @labrescuelrcp and we couldn’t be happier that they’re part of our family! ❤️ #rescuedogday #labrescue #labrador #adoptdontshop

I am so looking forward to running in Memphis again this December! 🎉 If you’ve ever thought of running a race that does so much good in the world, join me! I’d love to have you come to Memphis and run with me! Or you can always donate through the fundraising link in my bio. ❤️ #stjude #stjudeheroes #memphis #stjudedmv
