Hi Tech Savvy Readers! Besides advising you about the best technology products and websites for your children, I also write as a City Editor for Being Savvy Washington DC where I put an educational twist on activities in the DC area for children ages 2-6. This week the book geek in me has teamed up with the Tech Savvy side.
Being Savvy Washington DC posts feature author Sharon Pierce McCullough, of the Bunbun series, as a guest contributor. Sharon has written two wonderful posts where she shares her wisdom about how to create budding illustrators and encourage budding authors for Being Savvy readers. Captain Computer loves Bunbun at Bedtime for its simple story and fun illustrations. We’ve discovered that it isn’t just a bedtime book since he insists on reading it throughout the day!
You can win you very own copies of Sharon’s Bunbun books by clicking here and leaving a comment. The contest ends Friday. Yes, tomorrow!
Not only is Sharon an author an illustrator, but her characters from her books come to life on her new website, Ziggity Zoom. Ziggity Zoom is a great site and is certainly worthy of being a Tech Savvy Mama website of the week since it is place for children to play games, color pictures, read and listen to stories about many different characters, watch mini-videos or explore Play Worlds and other activities.
Sharon’s colorful artwork serves as icons throughout Ziggity Zoom, making it easy for toddlers and preschoolers to navigate between the different pages. The site is great for non-readers since it has an audio feature. Non-readers simply move the mouse over the icon and accompanying text below to have the words read to them.
Sharon and her daughter have designed the Ziggity Zoom for kids (and parents) to encourage creativity, reading and to let the imagination soar. It is certainly one of our new favorite sites and I hope you’ll have fun exploring it with your children too!
Don’t forget to enter the book giveaway and while you are at it, check to see if there is a Being Savvy City Guide for your area by clicking here and using the pulldown menu located to the right of Washington DC on green bar at the top of the page.
With Being Savvy City Guides in 30 cities across the nation, chances are that there is one for your area and if not, one will be coming very soon!
Thanks for reading Tech Savvy Mama through your feed!

Hi, great review thanks. I’m always on the hunt for great children’s books and have recently discovered Bayard and their series of StoryBoxBooks, AdventureBoxBooks and DiscoveryBoxBooks (which is a special Olympic edition) They have work by acclaimed children’s books illustrator Helen Oxenbury appearing in the Storybox series for September. In addition to this, they also have some great activities for rainy days: http://www.storyboxbooks.com/potatoprinting.php, http://www.adventureboxbooks.com/macaroni-picture-frames.php, http://www.discoveryboxbooks.com/skittles.php Enjoy!
