2009 Holiday Gift Guide: TODDLERS

November 16, 2009 By Leticia

Little Scholastic: TOYS ($8.99)- Interactive components and simple concepts make learning fun for little ones in this amazing book. TOYS thinks outside the box with its intricately designed die-cuts, foil placement, and removable pieces. I love that each colorful spread nests a removable flash card that doubles as a puzzle piece, making this book completely interactive! Ages 0-3 **Scholastic is offering one very lucky Tech Savvy Mama reader a selection of books customized according to their child’s age! I received a set of Scholastic titles for review.

A Chanukah Present for: Me! ($6.99) by Jill McDonald- This delightful book playfully mimics a wrapped gift box. The simple story highlights the most popular Chanukah icons and traditions and is a treat for the eyes with its glitter flocking and a beautifully embossed bow. Ages 0-3 **Scholastic is offering one very lucky Tech Savvy Mama reader a selection of books customized according to their child’s age! I received a set of Scholastic titles for review.

A Christmas Present For: Me! ($6.99) by Jill McDonald- This darling book looks exactly like a present since it is already wrapped to look like a gift box. Ages 0-3 **Scholastic is offering one very lucky Tech Savvy Mama reader a selection of books customized according to their child’s age! I received a set of Scholastic titles for review.

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom/Chicka Chicka 123 2 DVD set ($19.95)- This 2 disc set makes Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and Chicka Chicka 1-2-3- come alive. Chicka Chicka 1-2-3 DVD features other math themed stories like Emily’s First Day of School, Home Much is a Million and If You Made a Million. Chicka Chicka Boom Boom includes Fieve Creatures, Leo Lionni’s Inch By Inch, Wild About Books, Blueberries for Sal, Millions of Cats, and A Story-A Story for 2 hours and 9 minutes of viewing pleasure. Ages 3-8 **Win your own copy of Chicka Chicka Boom Boom/Chicka Chika 123 courtesy of Scholastic Storybook Treasures! I received a copy of this DVD set for review purposes.

Chat & Count Cell Phone ($14.99)- It is inevitable that your little one will clamor for your phone sooner or later. Get them LeapFrog’s Chat & Count Cell Phone and they will be singing along to songs, counting, playing one of 15 different activities. Little ones can also make their own calls to their puppy pal, Scout, learn the game of play phone tag, and leave voicemails if Scout can’t get to the phone. Connects to the LeapFrog Learning path for additional insight into your child’s learning and play. 18 months+ **Win a Chat & Count Cell Phone courtesy of LeapFrog!

Tag Junior ($34.99)- Tag Junior encourages 2-4-year-olds to engage with books, enhancing the narrative with carefully chosen sounds and activities. This toddler-sized “book explorer” is powered by the same technology that drives the best-selling LeapFrog Tag reader: a small, sophisticated infrared camera that “reads” words and pictures printed on the special dot-patterned pages of the sturdy, child-friendly board books in the Tag Junior collection. Additional board books are $10.99 each. **Win a Tag Junior courtesy of LeapFrog! I received a Tag Junior for review.

Counting Candles Birthday Cake ($15.99)- This cake features 5 light up candles that children can blow out one by one while singing along to 5 songs about growing up. Also add birthday lyrics to an instrumental tune. Connects to the LeapFrog Learning path for additional insight into your child’s learning and play. 12 months-3years

Clothes from Polarn O. Pyret– Winter is here and there is no better way to keep your kids warm and snuggly than with Polarn O. Pyret’s clothes. This Swedish clothing manufacturer made their U.S. debut earlier this year and their American fans are thrilled to be able to order their high quality clothes directly from their online store. Look for P.O.P.’s signature stripes, thoughtful details on their outerwear that is designed to withstand Sweden’s cold snowy months, and quality construction and unisex styles which allows the clothing to be passed down from child to child. I love the Folklore Print Tunic for girls and the Public Transport Top for boys that are $19.50 each or if you really want to keep them warm, get the Performance Snowsuit ($159.50) since it is designed to withstand harsh Swedish winters. And be on the lookout for the darling items that are part of the 2009 Polarn O. Pyret Holiday Collection. I received a selection of clothing samples from Polarn O. Pyret for review and won a Windfleece Jacket via their Facebook contest.

Rainbow Stacking Toy ($59) from The Pajama Squid– I admit to never making trips to The Pajama Squid store nearly enough but I love browsing Tiffany’s online store to see what unique items she’s found. The Rainbow Stacking Toy is full of endless possibilities because of its brightly colored wooden arches. Stack together, on the floor, use them as tunnels…I just adore this high quality toy for its open ended play. Made of alder, lime, maple, and cherry wood and dyed with water-based dye that are safe for children. 1+ years Pajama Squid is a favorite of Cool Mom Picks! Take 10% OFF your entire online order until 12/31/09 with code: CMP10

Playskool Explore & Grow Busy Ball Popper ($24.99)- One of Playskool’s most popular toys allows 9 month olds and older to drop the colorful balls down the track and watch as all five balls pop out of the top, roll down brightly colored track, and pop out again. When balls spill over, little ones can chase after them. There are also silly sound effects and 8 different songs. 9+ months

Wheel Pals Classic Assortment ($3.99)- These soft and squeezable roll-along friends fit just right into toddler size hands. There are 12 different characters, all sold separately for an affordable and fun gift or stocking stuffer. I received a Wheel Pals while attending BlogHer.

Thanks for more great shopping ideas! I’m trying to decide if we should get a tag this year or wait for her birthday. I’m thinking she’s probably still a little young.

I tried to enter the Toddler drawing, but couldn’t submit the form from Safari or Firefox. (I had no problems with the Tweens/Teen form). I may be a version behind on the browsers, so maybe that’s why.

Today we’re celebrating National Rescue Dog Day Today we’re celebrating National Rescue Dog Day because we’re so glad Goldie and Murphy are part of our family! 🐶 We gave Goldie her forever home when she was 6 months old. She had been given up by her original family because she was just too much for them. She was an enthusiastic pup who loved to jump straight up in the air when she got excited and she used to hop the fence in the mornings to go visit her best dog friend, Katy, over our back fence. She still jumps from standing when she sees a deer, meets a favorite dog friend, or gets a visit from @lisatasch but now at age 5, she’s more calm and forever faithful. 🦮We met Murphy and his 9 brothers and sisters just days after he was born although we didn’t know he would be the puppy we’d claim as ours. Murphy has that puppy energy but in his quiet moments is a total love bug. He hogs the free space in our king bed (he even has his own pillow!) and loves nothing more than to press his body into me or lie directly on me. 🐾 Goldie and Murphy came to us through @labrescuelrcp and we couldn’t be happier that they’re part of our family! ❤️ #rescuedogday #labrescue #labrador #adoptdontshop
After 3 days at St. Jude Children’s Research Hos After 3 days at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, I’m leaving Memphis so very grateful to be able to support St. Jude’s mission of working to end childhood cancer. ❤️ Spending time connecting, brainstorming, and absorbing the wisdom of fellow Hero Ambassadors from around the country was inspiring because the work we do fundraising through our endurance events helps St. Jude do the incredible work they do to ensure families never receive a bill for their child’s treatment, housing, travel, or food and continue important research that will continue to reduce rates of pediatric cancer and other childhood diseases. I am so looking forward to running in Memphis again this December! 🎉 If you’ve ever thought of running a race that does so much good in the world, join me! I’d love to have you come to Memphis and run with me! Or you can always donate through the fundraising link in my bio. ❤️ #stjude #stjudeheroes #memphis #stjudedmv

When we bought our house 24 years ago, it came wit When we bought our house 24 years ago, it came with many things we didn’t love like rotted porch boards, 1 bathroom, and peeling paint (inside and out!) but it also came with things we did love like old, mature trees, crazy shaped boxwood bushes, and these spectacular peonies! 🌸 Every year when they bloom I’m so glad that these beauties conveyed with the purchase of our house and I’m glad we rebuilt our porch so we can step out our front door to admire them in their glory! 🩷#peonies #peonyseason #garden #blooms #spring
As a teacher and parent, I am well aware of the me As a teacher and parent, I am well aware of the mental health challenges our youth face and am really pleased to share that over the weekend I became certified in Youth Mental Health First Aid through the National Council for Mental Wellbeing! 🎉 I’ve always worked to build relationships with the young people in my life- whether my kids’ friends or students- and this certification has made me more mindful of the signs and symptoms of mental health challenges so I can have important and supportive conversations when symptoms first start to appear. 🗣️A big component of the training also included developing a self-care plan which is critical when supporting others. 💕 I’m so grateful to have taken this certification for free through the University of Maryland whose blended learning format (2 hours of self paced online work + 5 hour instructor led class over Zoom) was fantastic! 💻 The teacher in me really applauds the course design and I’m glad to join the 3 million+ in the U.S. certified in Youth Mental Health First Aid. 🏥 If this is something you’re interested in doing, University of Maryland has free courses on Saturdays or Sundays from 10-4pm between June-October. Swipe ⬅️ for more information, including a QR code with more information and a survey to take as part of the sign up process. And if you have any questions- leave a comment or DM me. I’m happy to help you get certified too! ❤️ #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthfirstaid #youthmentalhealth #mentalhealthawarenessmonth
