When I first started teaching, I did my best to make my first grade classroom look as bright and cheery as possible with the limited resources I had. I brought my hand-me-down rug from my grad school apartment, repurposed plastic shelving, went to the dollar store religiously to score book bins for $1, and spray painted large oval signs with black matte paint and affixed letters to them to hang over my students’ tables. I was proud of my classroom but I can only imagine what I might have been able to do with $25,000.
