Since my trip in January, returning to Haiti is constantly on my mind. Now that I’ve answered DamDam Haiti’s question of “How can we get a computer to do what you do?” it’s time to show them what I do and how I do it.

I could have been content with the photo of the women proudly holding the pink netbook that I received via Facebook but it was never my intent to send the computer without any follow up. I don’t want to be just another person that the Haitians have seen coming to visit and offering aid without upholding a promise to return.
Since my visit, I’ve been working to write a nonprofit grant to provide a multi-day training plan, create materials, and obtain funding to continue the work #Bloggers4Haiti started in January to educate women about social media tools and online and mobile safety issues. This collaborative grant will teach women how to use technology in order to communicate their personal stories through social media and professional goals through websites and Facebook pages for their businesses.
This process is exhilarating and terrifying at the same time because of the magnitude and meaning of this project. I’m drawing on my background of designing and delivering professional technology development, managing federal education grants, and teaching, collaborating with talented friends like Elena Sonnino and Grace Duffy, and tapping into my many tech connections made over the past few years in order to get the women in Haiti the technology and training that will help them share their amazing stories with a global audience because they deserve for the world to hear their voices just as much as mine.
