Master Lock Safe Space Portable Safe: Secure Valuables While on the Go (w. giveaway)

June 11, 2012 By Leticia

There’s always lots of speculation and news stories about an increase in crime when temperatures rise but regardless of the season, it’s always important to safeguard personal belongings whether at home or away.  Sometimes during the summer months we let our guard down. Maybe we’ve embraced relaxation on vacation, left the garage door open as kids enjoy going in and out to fetch items for outdoor play, or forgotten about what we stashed in our pool bags while cooling off in the water.
A couple of years ago while vacationing with some friends in St. Croix, we witnessed a beach side robbery where thieves made off with another family’s backpack containing cash, credit cards, passports, car keys, and the key to their hotel.  We had been at this deserted beach for the better part of the day, spending most of our time in the water. We brought beach essentials and a little cash for food since our friend was driving. We put our belongings at a table in front of a nearby restaurant where we could see them at all times. From time to time, someone would walk along the beach and one of us would casually get out and go lay on a towel next to our things but otherwise, we enjoyed the water.
We were by ourselves until another family pulled up and put their items underneath the trees by the parking lot.  The father lit their barbecue, got in the water, and then put some hot dogs on their grill.  Just a few minutes after watching the man get back in the water, we heard shouting and the dad was running towards the trees, after men in a jeep who were speeding away with their backpack.
As you can imagine, it was too late. Everything was gone. The backpack that had been hanging on a tree adjacent to the parking lot was an easy target for thieves passing by.
Master Lock Safe Space Portable Safe

I hadn’t thought about this story until I received the SafeSpace Portable Safe from Master Lock. This durable portable safe is large enough to hold valuables such as a small digital camera, cash, credit cards, passports, and car keys in a cushy foam lined interior but the beauty of it is the embedded cable. The cable can be used as a handle for carrying but also as a way to lock the safe to stationary objects or wrap around the SafeSpace for an added level of security.  Since SafeSpace is water resistant, it can handle getting splashed while at the beach or poolside.

Had the family in St. Croix had their own SafeSpace, they could have locked up their valuables, chained it to a large tree limb, set the code, and enjoyed their time in the water knowing that their belongings were safe. Now that we have a SafeSpace, I can think of lots of uses for it both at home and while on vacation.
SafeSpace Portable Safe is $27.59 from Master Lock with free shipping.
Giveaway: Win a Master Lock SafeSpace Portable Safe by sharing where you’re most likely to use it by Monday, June 25. Include your email address or Twitter handle in your comment.

I would definitely use this at the beach/pool like you mentioned but also when I’m at the park with my son and even shopping in the store. There are so many times I have my wallet and phone right there with me in the cart, stroller, etc. and it takes a split second to get distracted dealing with my son or looking at merchandise….someone could easily walk by and swipe my stuff!

I would use this when my husband and I go to car shows or to auctions- when we make day trips. There are times I dont kike/need to carry a purse and when I do I am always afraid I will get it taken. This would be nice to lock it to the bottom of the seat rail in the car.

Today we’re celebrating National Rescue Dog Day Today we’re celebrating National Rescue Dog Day because we’re so glad Goldie and Murphy are part of our family! 🐶 We gave Goldie her forever home when she was 6 months old. She had been given up by her original family because she was just too much for them. She was an enthusiastic pup who loved to jump straight up in the air when she got excited and she used to hop the fence in the mornings to go visit her best dog friend, Katy, over our back fence. She still jumps from standing when she sees a deer, meets a favorite dog friend, or gets a visit from @lisatasch but now at age 5, she’s more calm and forever faithful. 🦮We met Murphy and his 9 brothers and sisters just days after he was born although we didn’t know he would be the puppy we’d claim as ours. Murphy has that puppy energy but in his quiet moments is a total love bug. He hogs the free space in our king bed (he even has his own pillow!) and loves nothing more than to press his body into me or lie directly on me. 🐾 Goldie and Murphy came to us through @labrescuelrcp and we couldn’t be happier that they’re part of our family! ❤️ #rescuedogday #labrescue #labrador #adoptdontshop
After 3 days at St. Jude Children’s Research Hos After 3 days at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, I’m leaving Memphis so very grateful to be able to support St. Jude’s mission of working to end childhood cancer. ❤️ Spending time connecting, brainstorming, and absorbing the wisdom of fellow Hero Ambassadors from around the country was inspiring because the work we do fundraising through our endurance events helps St. Jude do the incredible work they do to ensure families never receive a bill for their child’s treatment, housing, travel, or food and continue important research that will continue to reduce rates of pediatric cancer and other childhood diseases. I am so looking forward to running in Memphis again this December! 🎉 If you’ve ever thought of running a race that does so much good in the world, join me! I’d love to have you come to Memphis and run with me! Or you can always donate through the fundraising link in my bio. ❤️ #stjude #stjudeheroes #memphis #stjudedmv

As a teacher and parent, I am well aware of the me As a teacher and parent, I am well aware of the mental health challenges our youth face and am really pleased to share that over the weekend I became certified in Youth Mental Health First Aid through the National Council for Mental Wellbeing! 🎉 I’ve always worked to build relationships with the young people in my life- whether my kids’ friends or students- and this certification has made me more mindful of the signs and symptoms of mental health challenges so I can have important and supportive conversations when symptoms first start to appear. 🗣️A big component of the training also included developing a self-care plan which is critical when supporting others. 💕 I’m so grateful to have taken this certification for free through the University of Maryland whose blended learning format (2 hours of self paced online work + 5 hour instructor led class over Zoom) was fantastic! 💻 The teacher in me really applauds the course design and I’m glad to join the 3 million+ in the U.S. certified in Youth Mental Health First Aid. 🏥 If this is something you’re interested in doing, University of Maryland has free courses on Saturdays or Sundays from 10-4pm between June-October. Swipe ⬅️ for more information, including a QR code with more information and a survey to take as part of the sign up process. And if you have any questions- leave a comment or DM me.
