One of my goals for the rest of the summer is to clean out the kids’ closets. Currently their closets can be described in one word- disaster! Captain Computer’s drawers are overflowing while Little Miss Techie’s closet is a mish mash of apparel that fits well, is marginal, and is way too small. My goal is for our closets to look like this:
With the start of school right around the corner, it’s out with the old to make room for the new!
My plan is to make 3 piles of clothes: keep, donate, and sell. The items in the sell pile will be sorted by size into lots for sale on eBay.

Lots?
Lots consist of collection of items. In this case, a lot would be clothing of a certain size for a particular gender. For example, 3T toddler boy clothes, 10 year old girls dressy clothes, or 5 year old boy play clothes.
When creating the eBay listing, you include a few of the brands contained in the lot so the listing might read:
- LOT: 3T toddler boy clothes ~ Gap, Children’s Place, Circo
- LOT: 10 year old girls dressy clothes ~ Hannah Anderson, Janie & Jack, Gymboree
- LOT 5 year old boy play clothes ~ Circo, Old Navy, Children’s Place, Faded Glory
Selling used clothes on eBay? Do people really buy random assortments of clothes?
Absolutely!
My fellow eBay Parent Panel members have great success in listing lots of used clothes.
Caroline Murphy of Smarty Pants Mama advises, “Don’t be afraid to sell used kids “worn” clothing – listing it as great after school play clothes! Photos are now free! Take advantage of this feature be photographing all sides and details of clothing!
Featured on the eBay Money Maker series, eBay Power Seller Windy Sibbersen, says, “Lots can be outfits or similar items- don’t be afraid to list several tops together or several bottoms together. Be sure to check that the items you include in a lot have the same measurements regardless of the size listed on the tags! Just like adult clothing, sizes may vary by manufacture. Finally, designer clothing is nice, but less expensive brands sell well too.”
Will you be doing a fall purge and listing lots of your kids’ clothes on eBay? You can also list adult clothes! I have a bunch of suits that could be listed as a lot of professional women’s wardrobe. Hmmmmm…..
I am part of the eBay Parent Panel and am compensated for my participation in the program however all opinions are my own.

Hi, I really enjoy reading posts on your site! I’m a student and I was wondering if you could take my quick survey about family life: http://fluidsurveys.com/s/family-life-survey/. I would really appreciate it and there’s a special gift for one lucky respondent!
Thanks!
Great idea–I need to do this!
Great blog . Me and my wife did something similar with our sons clothes but we also took some of the clothes to be sold at once upon a child store @ Micksabarber
